Overall, today was a good day in my quest for a healthier lifestyle. Granted, I had McDonald's for lunch. But I said no to my craving for a vanilla shake! I also drank more water than pop (soda) while I was at work.
After work, I went to the gym. I'll admit, I started by laying in the tanning bed. But I did work out after that for 20 minutes on the weight machines. I focused mostly on my legs, and some abs and back muscles too. I did not do any cardio, though.
Then I went to the mall to use a coupon at JCPenney. While there, I spent about 15 minutes walking quickly through the mall. That's my kind of exercise - walk and window shop!
I ate only one serving of pasta hotdish for dinner tonight. And I have not smoked as much as I usually do today either. I should start counting my cigarettes sometime, it would give me a better way to measure my progress in that area.
So, a Better Health day today! What did you accomplish for your health today? Come share with the group at Better Health Blog!

Sounds like you are on the right track! I've actually heard that working out and then tanning is good for your body. It is good for your muscels... that's just what i've heard though! lol.. Keep up the good work!
It's a good start so far!
I haven't heard that before. Interesting ... maybe I can justify risking skin cancer. LOL
Tanning, I dont agree with, walking I agree with. I agree with you Jodie and pray seriously that you stop smoking. When you were pregnant with your last child, did you smoke all through the pregnancy?
Jodie
You do not want skin cancer lol ....my mother has it(she used to lay out in the sun all the time) Now I am getting the nodules on my skin so far cancer not detected yet. My sister also uses those tanning beds it scares me so. Its not just the cancer but being confind in those things(then seeing movies when people lock others in them and can t get out)lol
I know ... my dad and grandma both have had skin cancer, and they don't even tan much at all. For me, it's not so much about getting a tan look, although that's nice. I do it for my mood. My depression is very much affected by sun. After 3 cloudy and rainy days, I needed some sunshine to lift my spirits. And it helped a lot!
Good job keep it up
THANKS FOR SHARING. GOOD JOB. MORE THAN I DID TODAY..
Zip - nada - nuttin'. Maybe tomorrow:)
It's okay Rose ... every day is a new beginning!!
Sounds like you had a great day today! It was hot out so I didn't eat much today but drank plenty of green tea and got about 4 miles of walking in :)
4 miles? Good for you! I should try green tea sometime. I know it has many health benefits.
sounds like you had a good day.
sounds good
Sounds like you are right on track! Good luck to you and keep up the good work!
Went to the gym. Did the machines and some cardio
Great job Mary!!
I think the best thing you could focus on is to stop smoking. Whenever I see a doctor, any doctor, it's one of the first questions out of their mouths, "Do you smoke?" It's just so bad for you, but luckily if you stop when you are young, the damage is reversible.
Otherwise, you seem to be making great progress. I am not working out as hard or long as I should be although today, it did seem like I climbed the stairs an unbelievable amount of times! That's gotta count for something, right? Even though my workout was pitiful today.
I know, the smoking is brought up by doctors and nurses all the time. I'm a nurse ... it's actually part of our job description to encourage people to quit smoking. I find that funny, really, because there are TONS of unhealthy habits, but we don't list all of them in our jobs.
I think you had a rather good day. I also think that after a while you can find ways to slip your favorites in. But at that point you won't be craving them so it can be more of a treat.
I didn't really do any exercises today, but my water intake is good and i've only had 3 cigerettes today. Thats pretty good i think!
3 cigarettes? That's great!! I used to smoke a pack or more a day. I'm down to about half to three quarters of a pack (10-15 cigarettes), unless I have to do a lot of driving.
You are really working hard in all areas! Good job. walking is a great choice.
What is the saying? The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Sounds like you are taking steps in the right direction!
I think you did a great job!! Hey you can not do it all at one time, Jodie being a smoker is a habit that takes sometimes years to kick. My dad used a little computer that you program how many cig. you smoke in a day. Then within a year you are smoke free because each day it take a cig away(what it does it tells you when to smoke a cig)
Larry used the patches and then lexapro and he has been cig free for over two years.
My dad is smoke free for about 20 yrs.
Me I never smoked but I like to eat so that is my problem.
But what I did today was get up without putting something in my mouth yet!! lol :D
You did great!!! Yesterday was a bust for me. I didn't eat right (didn't really eat at all), had no energy, didn't do ANYTHING. Well that's a lie, I planted the second half of my garden, but I can't even consider that much work. Its so flipping humid here I can't stand it. Today I am doing better, with a high protien breakfast (21 grams!) and only 2 grams of fat... so I'm hoping today is much better for me health wise then yesterday!
Hey, even planting a garden burns calories!! Give yourself some credit. :-)
I avoided extra snacks after dinner!
Great job!!
I'm trying to eat smaller portions during each meal and getting some exercise even if it is just going for a short walk.
Let's see.... so far, I've joined a gym - now I just have to start GOING!!! Good for you, though, you are making progress!
Good luck with it all!
I hope you quit smoking - you as a registered nurse should know this is a big NO NO!!! Don't worry - just keep drinking lots of water and slowly wean yourself off of those cigs - you can do it - so many people have - and snack more on carrot sticks and you really won't gain weight!! Good luck. Salud
I know, Mariana. I'm so bad. I've been smoking for 16 years, and I have tried to quit many many times. I hate carrot sticks, LOL.
I understand and most of the nurses I know all smoke! It is very diffcult to quit but take it one day at a time - you'll be so glad you did someday - well, let's see how about peppermint sticks?! I know I know - Ok well, all the very best of luck and thanks for replying! Salud
Thank's for info that is greatt
