I live in Salem, MA. Last saturday my daughter came down with a 102 fever, she began coughing and we took her to the pediatrician. They said it was a FLU, and they took a bunch of swab tests, etc. By monday, I was sick and by wednesday my wife was likewise ill. We all showed unmistakable FLU symptoms. By wednesday I can safely say that this has been the worst illness in my entire life. I have had the flu before, but this was terrible. Friday my daughter was showing signs of getting better, and friday night we were told she did have the H1N1 virus. My wife and I just accepted that whatever type of flu she had we must have so we have stayed home and had people run errands for us as much as possible.
Unfortunately there is a 48 hour incubation period when you are not sick but you are contageous. THAT is where the big problem seems to be.
I feel better today finally, but not 100%. My daughter was feeling fine but had a 101 temperature again today, so no school again tomorrow. Although we were told there were something like 9 children all being tested for H1N1 from her school, so for all we know they might close the school if this is a big outbreak.
The H1N1 virus is NOT going away folks. I thought it was. Everyone jokes about it being a false alarm and all. Well. Don't believe them. This is NOT going away. ..and it is a NASTY flu. My wife has bad asthma and she has had to take breathing treatments regularly, use her inhaler a lot and she still teetered on the brink of calling an ambulance a number of times. If you have breathing troubles, this can be a dangerous sickness.
All in all, I guess we are better off now. The doctor said once you have had the H1N1 virus you won't get it again and they are expecting it to calm during the summer but then come back stronger in the fall. ??? I am relating this to the best of my knowledge and can only really speak for my family as to the strength of H1N1.
Also, we had a little trouble getting the Tamaflu prescription filled and had to hunt around to a few pharmacies to find it in stock. So, that is something to keep in mind.
One other thing, I was told by someone that they heard on TV that the government has a stockpile of vaccinations for the H1N1 virus if the need arises, I want to know.. When exactly does the NEED ARISE?
Take Care of yourselves
and stay away from sick people!!
My 19 year old son lives with us but we have managed to keep him from getting it so far by liberal use of lysol (which kills most flu strains) and making him stay away from us.
