Visionary landscapes, constructs unclear
In era far short of enlightenment
Communication madness, truth twisting
In penalty lane with fear holding Mass
In headlights, eyes frozen, quickly tear
Unwashed so beholden to hold the trash
Any day rainy day, laughing retraced
In sanctuary, hauled away, justice?
Loss of home, debtor's prison is the street
In land of purple majesty, just why?
Humanity, may we say thanks daily
And let political slogans rusted
Crumbling to the ground, restrict no further
Inventive self needed for smiles and peace
Demanding, peacefully, crack open walls
Say hello with a warm heart, let it show
Freedom needs a good strong back, place called home
Disgracefully, money buys trusted one
Special interest lap dog, nothing gets done
Fashioned airy polished script could suggest
Hopes and dreams, pie in the sky tornado
Obviously, there's no need for a guess
Citizen, soldier, common fodder, ground zero

eruidite is the word that comes to mind for some reason!
Thank you. The metaphor is both surface and very deep. I tried to give the words a Kanji feeling and in another twist, I tried to come with meaning from right to left. I mean the syntax is in the usual left to right order. Since many languages have script written right to left, my poem is for all in this world. I seek peace.
I guess you're not an Obama fan?! Thank you for posting to our group. As usual the rhythm is marvelous in this piece. I admire your talent.
Mr. Obama promised economic hekp from the bottom up. He has done the opposite and let his advisers make his words hypocritical. The stimulus money is tied up in red tape and millins will probably get siphoned off for administrative/legal costs and those really needing this money will never see it. I have lost hope in our leaders to do anything meaningful to help our citizens. Just more ttalk and doing what the lobbyist command. We the the citizen are the Unwashed.
I don't know much about politics and have never voted. I think you're right and trust you. I was always an anarchist at heart. If you have any solution, please share.
I am also waiting to see help from the bottom up, though stimulus checques to seniors have now gone out and a few other things are beginning to peak out. My concern is that the business leaders will move in attempting to co-opt good ideas (translation: attempts to re-write universal health reform to "look" universal) and make them just another profit scheme.
In a land that holds so many riches why are many people fearful of losing their homes.
that trend was put into place long before Obama got involved!
I am an Obama fan, but that is not the post, the poetry is the post!
Isn't it strange that when the darkness is deepest, hope shines all the brighter.
very nice poem
Take heart, dear friend....things will improve...just takes time.
Special interests are important and need to be heard. Unfortunately they often conflict. In our home town, the special interest group wanting to preserve an obsolete bridge held sway (apologies for the pun) over the interests of those wanting to be rid of the bridge forever. We have paved bicycle paths which would not be there had it not been for special interest groups. But when the special interest represents positions not in the best interests of the whole, then we have a problem.
I feel the poem, William...and was afraid this was going to happen wayy back. I would have LOVED being proved wrong. Perhaps Mrs. obama will take the reins from behind.
Many Presidental wives have known more how to Serve the Public than the official Leader.
Brilliant words, Bill!!!
One of the most valuable things I've learned living here is Russia is the following: NEVER trust a politician, ANY politician, under any circumstances. Vote for the one you choose, but without putting too much hope on anybody. Power and money can corrupt even the purest soul in this world, and most of the people who seek the career of a politician are definitely not the "purest" souls. Great poem! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
So much I could say here. I'll settle for great and perceptive writing.
William thank you for a very insightful poem. We disagreed for a long time. But now I see we agree. So That is good.No mater which party you are for. They all end up the same, once they are in office.
I see Toto now. He's being carried away by the tornado. Oops, there goes Dorothy's ruby slippers Sigh.
Te he!
Thanks for posting to my group, Anythingwriting
I must agree with Svetlana and Deloris about the politics and politicans..........take care of things ourselfs if we can.........
I understand your write, but don't totally agree. I have seen help at all levels. Yes, there has been too much done for big business, but much of that was already started before the current administration. Universal Healthcare is going to be a fight, and it is something we have to get right to have hope of improving things in our country.
Touching...
"Disgracefully, money buys trusted one"
I don't know the answer, other than that we can't trust everyone.
In total agreement with your poem William, still looking for help for the litle people, did get $250.00 but how long will that last and what will it do, and how about those who's new mortgage capabilities were turned down for red tape, know of that one too, and those that need jobs, for sure know that one, and with all the car plants closing, less revenue for the IRS and government, more people on unemployment rolls and thus also, more people uninsured. I hope all the promises given will at least be looked at and I wish a special congressional election could be held so we could clean house and start with people who really know the problems and are not owned at least for the first year, to help us straighten this mess out.
So true, Elsie, I agree with you on all counts.
William,
Your poem rings so very true, we see it and feel it all the time here, and though I'd have never been able to put this into words as well (or half as well) as you just did, this speaks volumns of truth about what's going on. And it's not good.
Marilyn
Ah William you just get right to the heart of the matter!
I'd rather "behold" than "hold" the trash!! great one from your pen
Ouch. Deep and sad.
Take tetanus vaxin for rusty nails of slogans and promises can be revealed more latter. A far sighted work. Of course here poet is perfectly neutral.
the shelf life of sunshine
fantastically written! you said it well
Politics is not my arena, but
I hear passion in your voice, shouting
Justice for the silent voices.
Bravo.
What passion your poem speaks, IF only it didn't wring true.
Dear William,
You are talented.
