Robert and I took a short quad ride today down the Crackerjack Mine Road near Payson, Arizona.

An eagle way off in the distance. You can see him in the tree.

When I zoomed in it was in digital zoom and didn't show up too well.

The weather was awesome. This area is usually very hot so the wind actually kept the temperature down today.

Instead of driving all the roads in the area like we usually do, we just found a nice, shady pond and spent a while watching the turtles. We didn't know there were turtles in there.

After lunch we headed back to the truck. We had a great quad ride.

Great animal closeups - the turtles must have been fun to watch.
They were a lot of fun. The water was murky so we were surprised whenever they popped up to the surface for air.
neat pictures , thought the last one looked like a head thanks for sharing
It does look like a head, Larry. Cool.
Beautiful area and photos. What a wonderful way to spend the day.
Thanks so much for posting to my group.
Thank you.
That looks like such a pleasant spot in there. Is it far off-road?
The close up of the turtle was really good, as was the 'transformer' (dragonfly.....but the second shot looks mechanical, somehow--lol).
It hasn't been too bad today in Phoenix, temp-wise, which is helping a lot while a wait for a replacement air conditioner.
It is a great spot Mom but it is off the road down a steep hill that we had to drive the quads down.
Oh good, I'm glad you aren't roasting. Did you have a little wind to cool it down a little too?
What beautiful scenery! I can imagine what a nice ride it must have been.
Thank you Tory.
Oh wow - beautiful. Great photo essay and what a wonderful place to explore.

Thank you Janet.
Great pictures. I really like the picture of the leaf reflecting in the water.
LOL, Karen. That was my favorite one too.
All the photographs are relaxing and scenic. I do like the last one a lot.
I just wonder if that bird was laying golden eggs or if you had turtle eggs for breakfast? I'm rather sure other Gather members were thinking the same question or something culinary like turtle soup. At least you get natural nutrition. Maybe this could lead to a TV show: Toni V versus that scary looking insect.
LOL, William!!! My daughter made us a wonderful breakfast. The bird was a dove so I guess that means we had turtle-dove soup for lunch.
Hmmm......next time I'm up I'm going to keep a close eye on the ingredients any of you put in the meal you're making for me!
Wonderful essay. Thank You for posting to our Photopoints group.
Thank you, Janet.
Nice photos Toni. You sure found a neat spot to kick-back in... I would have had to take a "deer nap" there myself, ha ha. Find me a nice shady spot and Zzzz..... LOL.
Turtles were especially cool, thanks.
I almost did take a nap, John. I was sooo tired after eating lunch. LOL.
looks like a beautiful day for a ride.
It was really nice, JoAnn. Not too hot, not too windy. Just enough wind to keep things cool.
I just LOVE your ROCKS there in Arizona! LOL! Great essay, Toni! :o)

Hi Alison! Thank you. With all these new people I'm taking along with me, I might have to buy a few more quads.
Loved the turtle pics and seeing the water running through the desert landscape.
