For years now the humanitarian crisis in Somalia is the worst in Africa and probably the world.
Yet hardly anyone cares about this.
The issue of Somali piracy, however, has recently attracted global attention and military intervention.
Alex Perry writes in Time that "Australia, Bahrain, Britain, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Jordan, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Portugal, Russia, the Seychelles, Spain, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United States and Yemen have all contributed to the effort to safeguard international sea trade. Currently that involves 25 warships, scores of surveillance planes and tens of thousands of sailors."
Perry adds that "the Somali crisis that involves millions of people receives almost no attention while the Somali crisis that involves millions of dollars receives unprecedented military action."
This is nothing new. People, especially if they are poor and African, don't matter. In today's world, it's only about interests, politics, and money!

Alas, that's so true...
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Other countries have never given much of a damn about Africa, unless it has been to rape different country's natural resources. Or, dump their toxic and radioactive waste off the coast of Somalia!
Very true Savo,
I posted an article on Gather and other groups about the dumping of nuclear waste material by Europe and probably America off the coast of Somalia cost which was proven when it washed up on the shore from the tsunami that devastated their coastline. But it was to no avail because Americans and especially Americans have a problem accepting responsibility for what we cause.
If America was not directly dumping the waste it was sending nuclear waste to countries it knew were using the practice of destroying the environment of Somalia and destroying the fishing industry that was the only means of support for these retched people.
America is not in the humanitarian business and anyone that thinks different is just brainwashed. Some of our American charities do very well in their support of humanitarian help but the American government like American corporations do nothing for anyone unless their is a big profit in it and you are very right to point out that money is everything and humanity is nothing but words blowing in the wind.
When I worked in Somalia the people there could not stop killing each other long enough to care about any kind of aid. There are tribal & religious rifts & factions that are absolutely committed to killing everyone else who doe sthink their way. We should care about people who do not care about themselves?
Yes we should Donald because we made them what they are.
Jack how did WE ,ake them what they are...? What i am talking about has been what they are for more than 1000 years...!
Donald, are you saying that Africans are evil in their nature? Quite a racist statement to make!
Jack is 100% right - the primary cause of conflict in Africa are the colonial policies - divide-and-rule, indirect rule, arbitrary borders that separated ethnic and tribal groups to suit colonial economic and political interests...
Then came post-colonial period when the United States supported African dictators just so they don't go communist.
Donald says "There are tribal & religious rifts & factions that are absolutely committed to killing everyone else who doe sthink their way."
Isn't this what Americans are doing since the formation of the US? Only that Americans also go outside their continent to murder for oil and what else. The extermination of Native Americans, atomic bombs in Japan, mass murder in Vietnam, all over South America, Iraq...
"In today's world, it's only about interests, politics, and money!"
Isn't that the sad shameful truth.
Savo.....I did not say that but what i did say is that tribal enmities have not been put aside and until they are progress cannot be made in any direction.
