I have been an avid social networker for at least 5 years and realised early on it is not about having the most contacts in your list.
When we join a social networking site we need to know exactly why we are there, what we want, how to achieve the desired result who to connect with.
Recently I decided to experiment with an idea I had after writing my 2nd book, The APE Philosophy. One of the characters in my book, The APE Philosopher came to life! He joined many social networking sites, to name a few, Twitter, Facebook, Gather, and Redwire.
At first he just sat there not doing anything to see who would connect to him. After a while he decided to invite a few friends to join him in the hope it would lead to more exposure.
After a few weeks it was still very slow and the APE Philosopher did not have many connections. It was obviously his friends were not helping him out and spreading the word so he had to take action!
He decided to connect to anyone who would connect back to him, and it worked. But what exactly did he achieve from that exercise?
