Materials:
(yarn amounts are approximate)
WW yarn, about 3 oz. white
Small amount red
Scrap of black
Fiberfill
Crochet hook size F
Crochet hook size G (for scarf)
Yarn needle
Notes: Do not join rounds unless indicated. Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker or scrap of yarn.
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Pattern
Rnd 1: Starting at top of head with white yarn and size F hook, chain 2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join, chain 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 6: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (30 sc)
Rnds 7 - 11: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 12: (sc in next 3 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (24 sc)
Rnd 13: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 14: (sc in next 2 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Rnd 15: (sc in next sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn (12 sc)

Rnd 16: Work 2 sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn. (24 sc)
Rnd 17: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 18: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (30 sc)
Rnd 19: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (36 sc)
Rnd 20: (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn. (42 sc)
Rnds 21 - 28: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 29: (sc in next 5 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) rep around, join,ch 1, turn (36 sc)
Rnd 30: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 31: (dec 1 sc over the next 2 sc) rep around, join, fasten off. (18 sc)
Stuff body firmly.
Bottom Closure
Rnd 1: With white yarn and size F hook, chain 2,6 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join,chain 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join, ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join, ch 1, turn. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join, ch 1, turn. (30 sc)
Sew to opening at bottom of body.
Ears (Make 2)
Rnd 1: With white yarn and size F hook, chain 2,6 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join, chain 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join, ch 1, turn. (9 sc)
Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) rep around, join, fasten off. (15 sc)
Fold ears in half and sew ends of rnd 5 together. Weave in loose ends.
Sew ears to top of head.
With black, embroider eyes, nose, mouth on face and coal buttons on body.
Tail
Rnd 1: With white yarn and size F hook, chain 2,6 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join, chain 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 3: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, join, chain 1, turn. (8 sc)
Rnds 4 - 17: Sc in each sc around, join, chain 1, turn.
Rnd 18: Sc in each sc around, join, fasten off.
**Do not stuff tail, sew to center back at bottom of body**
Scarf
With red yarn and crochet hook size G, ch 41, 2 hdc in 2nd chain
from hook and in each remaining chain across, fasten off.
Weave in loose ends.
Place scarf around cats neck and twist ends around each other.
Done!!!

very cute. I love penguins - do you have any penguin patterns? is this hard to make? I mainly make blankets. Congrautaltions on the feature.
It's strange you should ask about a penguin, I am just finishing up a penguin pattern but it still needs to be typed up and tested.
This pattern is fairy easy to make if you are familiar with crocheting in rounds.
Sorry I forgot to include the finished size. This kitty when finished is rather small, if I recall correctly it is about 4 - 5 inches tall.

This is really cute!! I used to have a pattern for a knitted bear, and used mohair-type /ww yarn when I made them. That would work nicely with this cat, as well!
