OK, the last one was iffy, but this is surely scifi, no?

Beneath the Big Red Fruit Tree there was only darkness. While the sun shone above, below the New Weird Order was holding yet another deathless meeting.
The First Patent Leather Being (With Reddish-Orange Hourglass) held the floor. “We have come to the moment of decision! Will we go forth into the Large Space and challenge the Mud-Colored Cousin, or will we cower here in the Green Place forever? Let me see a show of hands… All in favor of invasion?"
"Eight, sixteen, twenty-four… 256, 512…1024…The ayes have it! This means war! Webslingers, go forth and may the best OctoBeing win!"

I have nightmares about The New Weird Order. 1024? There are this many of them? I'm almost frightened enough to break my vow to abstain from using pesticides.
No, they each have 8 hands... it was my tribute to all of us old programmers who know the powers of 8 - by heart...
Eight hands? Me thinks you have spiders on the brain, my dear...lol
Also, you'll note that I worked the garden in...
The Patent Leather Being with Orange-Red Hourglass would be... what? Arachnophobes know...
Tarantula?
Black Widow
Like this..
Okaaaay... not common to this part of Texas I think although they were under a lot of homes and brush piles when I visited my friend in Phoenix AZ a few years ago.
Scorpions now...
This one was creepy!
Well, I didn't understand it at all. So, like poetry, I assume it's a good sci-fi thingie.
Actually, I think it's a humorous sci-fi thingie, but in case you're being serious, as you're known to do from time to time, I'll just say...
Thanks for sharing!
Obviously I'm slipping. The Black Widows meet under the tomato plant to plan a home invasion to take over the domain of the Brown Recluse and thus rule the world. Perhaps I should have put them both in the same post....
We ADHDers would appreciate that consideration in the future.
This is more towards the line of Sci Fi, but not that I would care, it is terrific.
By the way are your creatures any relation to the "Octomom?"
Only the Shadow knows...
you have a thing for spiders??
Good story ;)
Yes as long as their are mutant spiders then your in, otherwise its like your writing for Pixar. Not a bad gig mind you.
I think I'm proud of you. You could have gone for the "eyes" have it, but you didn't.
I toght it was great! sci/fi with a bit o' humor...
I think I'm in lurv with the phrase New Weird Order, but I also lurv First Patent Leather Being!
I was pretty sure I couldn't have been the only one to hit on "New Wierd Order", so I googled it. 10,200,000 results... Damn!
My toddler son exclaimed, "Dad! Dad! a black widow spider!" Of course I thought he was being dramatic and doubted that he knew what a black widow was, but he was correct! About a year later I was picking up Tonka toys and putting them in the sandbox so that I could mow. There were 2 black widows in the sandbox.
That was in El Centro, CA
Yikes!
Had a few Close Encounters of the Arachnid kind today Sarah?
One summer I shared a shower with a family of Black Widow spiders. They were very polite about it - they had their corner and I had mine. They did look like patent leather, though. Exactly.
All righty then! I always vote "yes" to patent leather. That wasn't the point though. Is there going to be a test?
There's always a test.
onward and upward!
invasion of the spider people..love it..
I like the New Weird Order. I think I'm part of it.
The story was interesting but a little confusing for me.
I'm slightly befuddled, but that's nothing new. However, my math skills a befuddling me beyond the norm as I try to recreate the rhythmic chant progression above. Perhaps it's an arithro-exponential hybrid?
My Arachno-calculus:
8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80... (arithmetic multiplicative progression: 8 * X)
8, 64, 512, 4096, 32768, 262144, 2097152... (exponential progression: 8^X)
2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, ... (exponential progression: 2^X)
But then, I'm befuddled as a general rule...
Aha... I see what all the HTML editor discussions are about. Nevermind.
Spiders aren't good at math. Silly.
I do not like spiders
I do not like snakes
I will not eat them
With cookies or cakes.
I do like your post however!!!
This is great, I just hate spiders, doesn't everyone, well maybe not everyone,
