As many of you know,
I have fibromyalgia and other physical ailments.
My last day of work was Sept 29, 2007 and I then
filed for Disability Benefits.
Of course, I (like many others) was denied.
I went on to the 2nd step of their process and was
(of course) denied again.
Then I got a lawyer and filed for a hearing date.
And now I have an UPDATE to tell you. . . . . . .
I got a call from my lawyer's paralegal
(and I got a letter in the mail today)
telling me that Social Security has done
another review and has rendered a
FULLY FAVORABLE DECISION on my case.
They also stated that
a hearing is no longer necessary.
So now I'm just waiting for the AWARD LETTER to
be sent from the local Social Security office.
I was crying when the paralegal gave me the news
over the phone and I started crying again when I
read (and re-read several times) the letter that came
in today's mail. It's such a HUGE relief to know
they decided in my favor.
It lifted a BIG HUGE load of stress off my mind
and I wanted to share the news with my friends
here on Gather.
Thank you to all of you who have been keeping me
in your thoughts and prayers.
And now that I've got this update finished,
I'm headed to bed. My body can't handle sitting up
anymore tonight. I'll be back tomorrow sometime.

This is the MOST awesome news! YEAH!
i AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU! It's persistance.
Good for you!
My fibro/chronic fatigue disability case now has to go to U.S. District court. It's been 7 years since I filed.
It took my mom 2 years to get on it too.....the only good side to it is they should pay you from the time you first applied until now!!
this is great news!
congrats!!
Congratulations Susan
I'm so glad for you, thanks for posting
Great news, I am so glad for you.
Congrats! I'm glad you got it.
They denied me the first time. two months later I got an atty. within a yr. we had the case done,. settled, and I got my money.
That's great but, ashame you have to get a lawyer to make them do their jobs
Susan, that is just wonderful news! I am so glad that the battle is finally over & you are going to get what you should have been getting for a long time. I hope they go back to your first application date & give you a nice lump sum!
Yes you are right. They will go back to the filing date and give a nice lump sum.
Thank you for dahring your good news my friend!
I am so glad you got it. You just have to keep fighting. and they will come around. Congrats.
That is wonderful news!! I have no idea what it would feel like to be denied and have to go through the process of appealing, and then getting a lawyer. All I know is the way I felt when I received the approval for my VA Claim for VA disability and that I cried all the way home from the Post Office. It was 3 years of tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills (most of that was with insurance) and not thinking I was eligible for VA compensation or healthcare because the Navy said it was my fault for getting sick . . .
If your relief was anywhere near what I felt - which I'm sure it was even MORE because of your battle! - then I'm near tears FOR you!
boy, that's what i'm hoping will happen for me. i'm waiting for my hearing. i have been out of regular employment since oct 27th 2007 and filed for ssdi in march 2008. meanwhile, i'm pulling pennies off the floor to buy toilet paper.
Good for you. Make the best of it. You should get a payment that will be backdated to the first date you filed for disability.
oh sweetie, I am so happy for you!!
I am glad that you got your approval...
Wonderful news. You must be so relieved.
congrats! You should get all the back money also...and it will probably be quite a bit.
Susan,as I told you this was wonderful news.I'm glad that the stress will be gone and you can worry about Brian and Kricket.LOL and now what will you do with your free time?Rest well my friend.I hope you have a great day today.
Have a great gather day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for posting to sparealine.gather.com
Great news Susan ;-)
I'm sooo happy for you! Glad it finally turned in your favor.
They go back to the filing date minus 6 months I think. Then you get a half check for each of your children until they are 18. They go back retroactively on that also!
Half of your check. Say you get 700 a month for you. Each child will get a check each month for $350. and a lump sum for that too.
Congrats! I'm happy for you.
Oh that is good news.
I had to refile. My first case was denied. Now I am filling my paperwork out.
Congratulations!! Like other here, I have to wonder why this had to go two years, why they denied you twice only to finally 'review' the situation and totally reverse course, and why they created a mess you had to get a lawyer (and spend some of that money you needed) to resolve it.
Congrats to you! I understand how stressful it was. This past winter I was approved for SSD after two years of trying. It took me three times to be approved. The hearing was the most stress I have ever gone through but with the assistance of a lawyer I was able to get through it. Congrats once again!
thats GREAT I am very happy for you
This is great news Susan!
I am just so happy for you Susan!! I know exactly how you feel because that happened to me back in 1997. It just makes you feel wonderful that someone really believes you and you don't have to worry about how you are going to support yourself (and in my case an 8 yr old boy) and now my 10 year old daughter! I would go back to work in a minute if I could, but I just have too many strikes against me with my health!!
