I visited one resort where the rooms were junior suites with separate bedrooms and kitchens, ocean view, swimable beach - WALK to everything, from art galleries to wet t-shirt contests (no car necessary) all for a rack rate of $350 a night. Everyone speaks English, the weather is hot and sunny and the water is warm.
Now, at these new lower prices - you gotta go! You can't afford to stay home!

great info Richard!
there will probably be more deals to come as Mexico trys to recover visitors lost to the flu scare.
There's a bigger chance of getting the flu in New York City than Mexico, but the whole country suffers when a travel advisory is posted. Thank goodness that was lifted last week. Now a normally crowded resort on the edge of their high season is doable - both because of fewer people and because of the great deals!
It's a great deal for those who would like to travel these days.
Don't know if you saw it, but here's a piece I wrote when we returned from Los Cabos last September. I love that place. :-)
Yes, Sheryl, I liked it too. Nice piece - an indepth overview of a beach dog's life. Kind of like "Canines of the Sand" (with apologies to Jorge Amado!)
I have never heard of 'Canines' - I'll have to check it out. So glad to hear you had such a nice experience there!
Sorry - it's a take-off on his book about Bahai boys as strays living on the beach called "Captains of the Sand"
Richard I appreciate this info, but I have done Mexico too often. My next vacation, for my 70th birday next year will be here, in the U.S. There are so many places I have never seen.
The Grand Canyon would make a wonderful kicking off spot.
I agree - I hope to live long enough to see "it all", but know (rather -- feel) the inherent limitations. I don't even ask to be satisfied anymore. I ask to "go out" needing/searching/driving-to-find . . . . more. It's not where you start.
thanks for sharing
Ouch, a rack rate of $350 a night, for Mexico? Beautiful places there, but frugal me would rather hunt out a villa for $350 a month....
Then again, there are wet T-shirt contests....
I know, Ms. Meacham, but walking distance to EVERYTHING, suite, breakfast, view - I said when I saw it "I'd never leave the room" - convenience, That was a good deal that just got better AND - the air fare competition is making this a low priced, high-end destination. And of course the wet t-shirts can be a draw. (;>)
Well, if you're buying.... ; )
Richard, I started making plans for a trip there after your photo-less post. I'm glad I saw this before actually booking a trip. I'd love to get down there before the grandbaby arrives~ and again after (sheesh)~ so any other tips you have, you can email to me. Y'know I travel so much that little things like deadly flus and typhus don't scare me. I survived malaria once. Haha.
I'll try to remember to write about my trips in advance! I've already been invited to Turkey & Romania in October, and the Adirondacks July20-25. Nothing else though. If you like sailing, the Americas Cup sail/racing experience is fun.
If you don't want to drive all over the place, I went to a reasonably priced hotel in the town of Cabo San Lucas with gorgeous views. A really pretty property!
The in-town hotel is Casa Dorada http://www.casadorada.com/suite_onebed.php with a one bedroom suite @ $250Â a night (breakfast @$18, and pick up at the airport @$75 - walk to all shopping and ammenities.
Richard, thanks very much. I'm checking out several possible accomodations but it's good to have recommendations to start things off. For a trip like this, I doubt that I would want to do much driving when the point of this one is to relax and indulge. Haha, and EAT.
I ate there - and am going to write about it. If you want to be in the center of things and eat all the differnt foods without driving - AND want high end at a reasonable price - this is the one for you. I have full contact info and can arrange intros . . . but - you're a pro. The local CVB has tons and wants to help you. You tell me what you want me to do.
Richard, I will definitely be in touch via email if I can convince my travel companions that this is what we should do. I appreciate your help very much since this is half of what successful travels entail. Intros are always a bonus, as you know. Wish me luck with my powers of persuasion with my travel team. Thanks again!
A getaway would be absolutely wonderful right now, but unfortunately isn't possible at this time.
Sounds fun I can't wait to go there, any new destinations to explore?
There are always new destinations to explore! My next is the Huasteca region of San Luis Potosi, in Mexico - caves, grottos, archaeological sites - and the culture of the capital city. I'm looking forward to it.
Sounds interesting. Too bad travel just isn't in our budget at this time.
Thanks Joan. I know budgets are tight everywhere - but if you can go - the bargains are there now.
