[a birthday poem]
So, little girl, you turn thirteen today
Your family's proud of you in all of your ways
They have hope and confidence you will do what's right
After all you are a source of their light
You're more than a year older, you've gone beyond that
It's a whole new beginning where you're now at
You'll be putting 'Barbie' away, you'll start noticing 'Ken'
Boyfriends are a part of growing up, but it's you who says when.
Your mother, she'll worry - it's her nature to do
Be patient with her, and show you remember what she's taught you
Be wise in your decisions and most will be right
Keep the person you'll want to be always in sight
You're allowed to mess up - just like children & adults
Learning to take mistakes in stride is what's growing up is about
You become a 'teenager' with questions and yearnings
You'll exit an adult, shaped by your learnings
Yes, some may be bad, but more will be good
Do more right then wrong and you'll be who you should
So, young woman, you turn thirteen today
God is watching so remember to pray
These are cherished years so don't take them too fast
May the joyfulness of today always last !
