COSTA MESA -- A black cat named "Stormy" has become the unofficial crossing guard for one Costa Mesa elementary school.
The 17-year-old feline has a bit of a routine with crossing guard Barbara Scalla, 69, of Huntington Beach.
Stormy waits for Scalla in the Killybrooke Elementary School parking lot as she gets her folding chair, stop sign and yellow crossing-guard jacket.
The two then make their way across the street to take up their post at Killybrooke Lane and Stonefield Street. There, they work the 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. shift.
As children approach, Stormy gets plenty of affection, and Scalla walks the students across the street.
Scalla and the cat have had this routine for about four years.

So great with all the gloom and doom around!
My cat Bob used to go for walks with us. I think he thought he was a dog; he liked to fetch too. I could see him doing this.
Oddly enough, I live in the same city as the crossing guard.
Our cats go for walks with us everyday.
Wow, what an amazing story!
This is such a cool story! My cat plays "fetch" too, and I got a harness for him so he could safely go for walks.
Seventeen? Older than the kids in people years. Citty Krossing guard at 17?
My little princess won't even get up for a can of off brand tuna.
Wow, what a cool story!
