CHICAGO (AFP) - The technology for versatile, grow-in-a-dish transplant tissue took a step toward clinical use Thursday when researchers announced they have found a safe way to turn skin cells into stem cells.
The biggest contriversy over stem cell use is that it currently comes from embryos. According to this article, that by-passes that and makes stem cells patient-specific. Sounds like a great break through!

Neat - i hope (for the sake of many people) there are break thrus in this field, quickly and humanly.
I'll like to see break throughs also that will help people.
This sounds cool!
It's about time we made some progress
interesting
Does this mean that the US tax payers WON'T have to pay for stem cell research on human embryos and Michael J. FOX, can live a better live anyway too, well, Halalula? The movie stars suffer so,....
Only movie stars will benefit from this? I'll remember that when I visit the grave of my favorite Uncle who died of parkinsons. Or when I visit a friend in the nursing home who doesn't remember me because of alzheimers, or visit my sister debilitated with diabetes and oh ya, my next door neighbor and my boss who has both had to fight cancer.
It's good to know that all you know and their sufferings will be alleviated by stem cell research OR new research that doesn't require using stem cells but has other alternatives.
If you recall correctly people like Michael J. FOX, quick to endorse stem-cell research to cure anything that ails THEM,whether proven or not, just ME, ME ME, all the time, let there be "no limits'" to the me, me me..And everyone HAD to pay for it, regardless of their beliefs as to it's ability to cure or not, and many millions were to be devoted to that of taxpayers monies.
BTW, I guess you naturally assume, that just anyone accepted that technique and it's possible affects to cure themselves, spend and tax, on something not proven.
Embryonic stem cell,..... just jumped right on it, ah well. Like I said maybe we can make curtains or blankets out of embryonic stem cells, so you'll won't be cold or unconfortable with your decisison one day.
Even tho they may be able to make stem cells without using human embryos, some people are afraid of such advances so hide behind ignorance.
They also had their facts wrong. No tax payer money went into stem cell research, it was forbidden by King Bush.
