Man lives in a world of man made illusions Hindus particularly are champions in this myth making game. They set the goal of human life as Mokhsa or liberation.Vedantist say that this world is a Maya or illusion,Only god the absolute the Brahman is true.Loving body and running after sense pleasures is nothing but ignorance.A wise man is one who runs away from thes pleasures and seek the path of salvation,I feel that the very idea of salvation means that salvation is supreme happiness.Brahmanand or the pleasure of realising ones real self and becoming one with Brahman is also a happiness of akind.Whatever the name one may give to the kind of happiness the truth remains that man is a happiness seeking animal
Budha the enlightened soul gave this happiness another name.He called it Nirvana. A state where there is no suffering.End of suffering means a state of happiness.Budha would not agree because for him it is sufficient to get rid of suffering and pain.Life is nothing but a drama of pain and Nirvana is a state of void or shoonya.
To me both vedantist and buddhists are telling the same truth that man is a happiness seekin animal. They call it in a disguised language. If philosophers speak the language that acommon man can understand /what is the use of being extraordinary,or a lover of wisdom. It is loving virtual reality in place of experienced reality/
Practical wisdom is looked upon with a scornful eye.It is common sense hence deserves no attention.I feel common sense is most uncommon. No knowledge if not illusory can transcend common sense. In Hindus ther is a school of Philosophy based on commonsense
The name of this school of materialism is Charwak. It is not a respected school by scholars selling indian philosphy abroad. It does nor believe in after birth. No regard for unseen salvation or Mokhsa. The much quoted statement is'" As long as you live live with happiness, take loan and drink curdor yoghurt. Why to worry about this perishable body.(Yaavjivet sukham jivet, rinam kritwa ghritam pibet,Bhasmibhotam dehasaya shkam kim karishyasi)

Interesting read. And do you think that, in many ways, we all are more alike than different?

Thanks.more you praise Bhawana more my happiness is doubled.
That makes me smile. Her beautiful spirit shows through. And I do know that it has to be hard for her to be so far from the wonderful comfort of home and dear family. If ever I get down to LA again, I would definitely try to meet her.

Dr. Saxena - Of course, we all love Bhawana. She has a beautiful spiritual depth and happy spirit. I am so glad that you have connected with me as a friend. Since my time lately has been limited, I must take my time in reading most posts in order to thoughtfully comment. I shall read this a few more times. I do appreciate your wisdom and Bhawana is so blessed to still have a father. I miss mine terribly. Salud
