We had a celebration dinner last night. Our daughter had a 20 week ultrasound yesterday morning and she and her husband found out the sex of their baby! They invited us for dinner to share their news.
I brought this salad; it was a huge hit with everyone, especially my husband. Katie served it with grilled chicken and cornbread muffins. It was perfect!

I have to assume it is a girl because of the pink text. Congratulations!
Congratulations Marianne! The salad looks devine. You have the best recipes.
So...did they find out if they were having a rack of lamb or a picnic shoulder roast?
You are too funny, Rob!!! Guess I deserve it for announcing my granddaughter along with a recipe post!!!
I really must try that. I don't think I've ever combined slaw with fruit or nuts. I like them all, so why not give it a shot, I guess.
And does the pink font give us a hint?
It does indeed, Shan! I thought for sure it was a boy ... so it was a huge surprise! Either way, I am thrilled!
Um, maybe I should say, "tickled pink!!!"
I have a feeling Robin is going to have a boy, but I want her to have a girl.
What's funny, is the "feelings" of the sex is about split down the middle. I've got people on both sides of the game saying that they've never been wrong, so this should be fun to see who I get to "let down" with the news!
Time to celebrate.
Wow, that salad looks great. I'd probably even eat it at this point (don't do salads much but nowadays, there's not much I turn down).
How many weeks are you, Robiyah? Are you going to find out the sex early or wait until your baby is born???
Congratulations to you and your family! I made your coleslaw last week, by the way, and it was excellent!
Congrats! I'm a long, long way from being a gramma. That's what happens when you are an elderly primigravida.
I've always considered myself a geriatric mom, too, Ellie! I was 32 when my first baby was born.
PS - Love the word primigravida! Very impressive! I had to look it up ...
Ha, ha, ha! I only know that word because the infertility doctor warned me that if I ever did achieve a successful pregnancy, I would be an elderly primigravida. Well, I guess I showed him for calling me names...he never did get me pregnant! ;-) Worked out tho...our daughters are in their even year...18, 20, 22 by the end of 2009. For now, 17--20--21.
Sounds like you have a gaggle of girls! Do they all still live at home?
Well 21 yo has an apartment and will graduate college soon...tho maybe grad school would be a good idea in this market.
The 20 yo is a tree hugger homebody...we can hope.
The 17 yo will be a senior in HS in the fall...and after watching the other two...and our encouragement...is looking forward to living on campus!
We really are blessed. Our daughters are beautiful and smart! They are also blessed to be bio-siblings as well. Same birthmother.
You are a tease. :-) A girl? The salad sounds great.
The salad look delicious! Congratulations to your daughter!.....You are going to have so much fun shopping for "girl" things! I was just at Kohl's with my sister and we were looking at the baby clothes, the ones for girls are just amazing!......I wish they had made cute clothes when my daughter was small.
congrats!
and the recipe sounds great!
I agree with Sandra H. Shopping for girl clothes is so much fun.
I agree with the shopping for girls clothes.
Congrats!
I bet you'll have so much fun shopping for pink:)
Well, I posted and it got lost! That salad looks YUMMY!!! I love a good salad, coleslaw or pretty much any veggie! The cranberries n walnuts sound WONDERFUL!!! I have to go check out that recipe!!
PS... congrats and your "granddaughter"!!!
Congrats Marianne! How excited you must be.
Congrats!
Congratulations! Hope all goes well.
And a fabulous recipe, as usual. Yum!
After reading some of your comments, I would like to seriously touch on a matter many grandparents to be rarely think about. There is a good likelihood you will live until this coming child becomes an adult. Just as he/she is growing, you are changing physically. This is why you need to think about future activities you can be able physically to do with your grandchild that you can share and enjoy. My feeling is that activity helps to make any relationship good. Sitting and watching is okay, but you need to decide is that all you want to do?
What great advice, Bill ... and so very true. I was blessed with a Grandma who danced with me! She actually tore the cartilage in her knee doing that ... OUCH! But she didn't sit in her rocking chair - ever!
