This was the third time I have visited Zoo Atlanta in 17 years. The last time was 1998. So it's been awhile. For some reason it seemed smaller to me. Perhaps that's because of the added exhbits since my last visit. There's only so much real estate in Atlanta.

This is a quick photo tour from my visit on 5/29. Some of the animals were not out due to the heat or were too far away for decent photos. Our main goal was to see the pandas and the parakeet exhibit. So I'm not disappointed by missing some of the other animals.

I chose this photo of the papa panda because his eyes were open.

Baby Xi Lan was funny to watch when he was indoors. He kept falling off this jungle gym setup.

Since I'm taking photos, I don't usually pay attention to what most animals are.

Any animal that was fenced in or that was in low level light, proved difficult to photograph.

Kangaroos.

Various turtles.

This silverback gorilla above kept hiding behind the plant growth.

I was pretty impressed with the detail on most of my reptile photos since they were shot through glass. Here's an example of one of the numerous snakes.

The otters, giraffes and various lions and tigers were not really visable or out in their enclosures during our visit. I featured the Parakeet Adventure in its own article and there will be several single photos of other animals appearing in my Gather Gallery this weekend.
Thanks for joinging me on a quick trip through the zoo.

lovely photos, magazine quality!! I love our photo essays
Beautiful shots. Looks like it was an amazing day.
beautiful pictures! Great essay=)
wonderful pictures... I would love to see a panda!! It's been a long time since I have been to Atlanta, but I don't see going back anytime soon.
You did an excellent job of capturing the animals in your photos. You are truly talented behind the lens.
Beautiful photos!
You got some spectacular photos! I always enjoy seeing what you photograph!
those are very beautiful shots!
Beautiful shots! I love going to zoos!
I love your shots. You took completely different styles than when I was there. I have lived here 2.5 years and have all ready been there twice. LOL Anyway, the Silver Back, he is a stinker isn't he. I think he gets a kick out of hiding from cameras. He did the same think pretty much to me. LOL Get photos. Love them.
Marianne, these shots are awesome. The animals are all so pretty. I love those pandas. I even thought the reptiles were neat and I hate snakes.
Another great essay ,Marianne .Beautiful photos ,all of 'em . Great tour of the Zoo.
Great photos. I'm going to take my daughter back to the zoo this summer.
Great photos, I haven't been to Zoo Atlanta in years, maybe 20 years or more, we've been to the Columbia Zoo twice.
Great photo essay!
Ohh...wonderful! We are going to the zoo next weekend, but I haven't been to Zoo Atlanta in a few years--we're hoping to go the next time we visit family (hopefully this fall)
great pictures
Thanks for a walk in the Zoo. It has been a very long time for me. I need to go.
I really want to see Kangaroos now that you & Kat both had pictures of them. Their faces look so cute!
That gorilla picture, where he is sitting beside a rock...looks like he is sitting behind a rock, pouting. Or maybe contemplating something....I like it!
I went to this zoo back in high school in the library club. I've been wanting to take my nieces to see the pandas.
You got some great shots! It was a fun trip.
Thank you for posting your photo at Pretty Pictures.
Thank you for taking us along on your trip to the zoo, Marianne! I love to go to zoos and have a chance to see animals I wouldn't normally see otherwise. I'd love to see a panda up close! Both your photos and the essay were wonderful! You're amazing with a camera!
This looks like a great zoo to visit, your photos are wonderful to view, as always. I would love to see those pandas myself, they are just adorable. I really like that little guy after the gorilla, what an adorable face with the heartshape patch of white. The brown and orange bird is beautiful.
Thanks so much for posting to my group.
You got some great shots, Marianne! I love zoos...I wish we had one close. I love the pandas!
Stunning shots! I hate all of the fencing and enclosures when trying to get pictures too. They create such challenges.
I want to pet everything put the turkey vulture looking bird. That beak scares me, but what a shot of him!
beautiful pictures
You've got some awesome shots Marianne. I love the first one of the panda and the one of the black bird.
Fabulous collection, great photo's as always.
You got some great shots Marianne.
I would like to get up to the zoo in Chatanooga and see how it compares to Atlanta. There were so few animals out last time we were there (last year).
I've never been to that zoo before. I have been to the Knoxville Zoo, but that was in 1997.
Wonderful photos!
oh I have been wanting to go to the zoo,
thanks Maryanne for taking me along with
your great photos!
Love, love, love your pictures - you are a true artist with the camera, girl. Of course if there was a frog you'd find it:)
My favorite pics were the pandas and the zebra and that amazing shot of the gorilla leaning up against the rock. Very cool!
The pictures are all so lovely. You did a fantastic job. Thanks for the tour. I felt like I was reading National Geographic.
Outstandiing photos, Marianne!
wow, excellent photos ... i also felt like i was reading National Geographic... great...
I have never been to that one, but I hear it is wonderful. And from the looks of these photos, it looks wonderful! I don't go to Atlanta if at all possible. However, I hear there is a great zoo in Montgomery (which is much closer to us) and I want to check it out. Wonderful photos, as always, Marianne.
Marianne your pictures from the zoo are great. We went on a class trip yesterday to the small game farm here. It was hard for me to focus on the animals as the camera was picking up the fencing in a lot of shots. I have to do some research of how to focus past the fence. I will be putting up some shots where that didn't happen but most of them were deleted because of this. If you know how to adjust your camera so this doesn't happen could you let me know. Someone told me manual setting but I tried that and it was worse.
I don't know how, I tried adjusting the camera settings while at the zoo here. I even tried "landscape mode" which is supposed to focus the entire frame. That didn't work either. I just got lucky with a few shots where I was at an angle.
Love that Panda...he is beautiful!! The little frog is cute but not cute enough to kiss! LOL
Stunning photos!!! Honestly if you didn't say you were at the zoo, and omitted those few pictures with animals in enclosures, I would have thought you were on Safari! They came out very, very well! You have quite the eye for framing, I always love to see your work and 'try' to live up to it! I have yet to hit the mark though - you are just too good!
They are all great but I really like the Panda shots.
Great photo essay. I love that shot of the panda all sprawled out.
lovely snaps, you in a good company
the pandas are adorable. I love the picture of the kangeroo.
wow, a great colleciton of photos
