Tonight, once more, we had a camp fire. I think this is our 3rd. Soon, we're going to have to buy wood, because right now, we're out of most things bigger than pinky sized. We foraged for wood behind the shed numerous times, and had the fire burning several hours.
We roasted hot dogs & brats for dinner, and had the buns and condiments all waiting right there. Then for dessert, roasted marshmallows. The kids had fun, as did I. Today, I had shoveled all the ash out, and made the pit itself deeper. I removed 3 large buckets full of ash out of the pit.
The neighbor, Gary, came over when he got home, so we socialized for a bit as well.
It was a fun evening! We did decide, though, that we need to buy some wood soon, because we don't have enough left to sustain even a single fire. :( We have some big thick fallen tree limbs, but they are to thick to break, and to long to be tossed in. We need to saw them- but, they're also green. They won't be usable till next year.

Sounds like SOOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!!! If we're ever in MI, can we swing by for a visit? We'll bring Russian food to share with everyone (Walker loves to cook, and bring stuff from his favourite Russian cookbook when we go somewhere) and I'll bring a pound or two of coffee and maybe a cake from Second Cup. You provide the meat and marshmallows, and we'll bring other yummy things. We'll all stuff ourselves! *grin*
I'll bring the marshmellows!! being that I am a card carrying girl scout..for life....LOL
Deal!
i havent had a campfire snce i was a kid
We never have campfires... they're always bon fires!! I love the country :)
We didn't have enough wood for one :( We got it going pretty high for a bit, but burned through a LOT of wood doing it.
We still have not gotten a decent campfire going in the backyard yet, and we have piles of wood. It has been so crazy busy around here with getting ready for missy's suprise grad party and all the other stuff that at the end of each night we just all konk out.
Reading about yours makes me want one so bad, I guess am going to have to make it a top priority.
It's a nice relaxing way to spend the evening, you should have one soon!
I love a nice campfire. We make smores every weekend. I found coupons for the grahm crackers when you buy marshmallows and chocolate. We do alot of camping on the weekends. We did not go out to the campground last night though. My son was in a parade for flag football and it was not over till late.
sounds like fun
Sounds like a really fun evening!
sounds nice
That ash can be helpful for your lawn. I would look it up online and see if it is good to just spread it out over your grass. Then you at least don't have a pile sitting somewhere.
it is also great to spread on your garden and then till into the soil
I didn't know that- that's good to hear! I will have to start using it that way. I just dumped it on the brush pile yesterday.
i love to have campfires and sit around with our kids
campfires are the greatest way to spend time together. Were in the process of building one in our yard, we have to make sure that we dont break any city rules. But I love to roast the Mellow's into smore's, the kids just love them.
Hope that you all get the much needed wood to continue your fun times in your yard
I haven't been to a campfire in years, but you did bring back memories, thanks for sharing the evening with us.
Sounds like fun. I've been wanting to get a fire pit. I don't know what is holding me up about getting it.
Sounds like fun, I love campfire. Plus you can make smores
Oh, we have tons of wood. That sounds like a great idea. I wonder if we can still do it here in CA or if they have a no burn thing already in effect.
That sounds like fun! I would love to get one of those fire pits and have a small fire here outside at night. I often think of sitting outside by a fire when it gets chilly at night, and reading my book!
i love the camp fires
