I love these pretty little birds. They come to my feeders year round, and now they are even bringing their fledglings to the feeders. Early this morning a red male was feeding three youngsters. But the lighting was so bad I could get a snap shot. These photos were taken yesterday May 28th, 2009 with the Kodak Easy Share DX7590, by me.
Here is a red phase male.

This orange male looks like he had his throat cut. Perhaps he had a close call with some raptor. He seemed to be in good health otherwise.

Here he is seen with a male Evening Grosebeak.

A male yellow House Finch.

This little fledgling was begging for food.

Her orange phase daddy.

I wasn't quite fast enough to get her feeding his little one. Here he seems to be looking up. Watching the skis for hawks no doubt.

He is wary.

ALl photos by me.

I too just love these little birds. They may be plain in appearance but they not mean to the other birds like the Blue Jay and they are just so adaptive.
I lover all the birds, well I'm not real crazy about the raptors trying to get into my birdhouses. Thanks Connie
pretty birds
Thanks J W
I haven't seen finches in the wild, only in cages at the pet store. It breaks my heart, as they were created to fly free. These are great shots, thanks for sharing them with us.
Thanks Margieanne
I perfer to have birds flying free too
Beautiful shots! Finches in so many different colors. We only have the red house finch but I sure ejoy watching them and listening to them sing.
Thanks Katherine

Thanks Kay
That third pic down cracks me UP. He looks like a little old man, about to yell at you for walking on his lawn.
We should name him Fred . What do ya think ?
Gorgeous pictures! Finches are so very pretty. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Pamela
We have finches where we live. I put out apple halves for them and orange slices, too. I string the fruit up. They love these treats. The birds really are not as fond of these fruits as you might think, they are coming to get the moisture from them. It is rare to see finches on the edge of a pond or water area. They are much more comfortable being up high...away from ferrel cats and such. Pamagranites are a favorite of the finch family, too. Always make sure your feeders are kept clean of rotting seed, etc. If you really want a treat that is visual....put up a cantaloupe, carve out a hole in it and watch the fun! The birds will actually go in and eat the seeds. thanks for sharing...
And I might add...if you are a cat lover.....please see to it that your feeders are NOT catfriendly. Chicken fencing makes a good deterent to keep cats from hanging around the feeders. Lay the fencing on the ground with the edges sticking up...the cats will learn very quickly that they do not like their paws being poked.
