5. U.S. Carbon Emissions Dropped in 2008 First Time in 30 Years The government reported Wednesday that energy-related carbon dioxide emissions declined by 2.8% last year compared to 2007, the largest annual drop in climate-changing greenhouse gas pollution in more than 30 years. (AP)

Boy, 6, Takes Wheel After Dad Passes Out A 6-year-old boy grabbed the wheel of his family's pickup truck when his father passed out from low blood sugar, steering several blocks -- even turning -- to keep the vehicle from crashing, police said. The kindergartner leapt into his father's lap so he could steer and see out the windshield. (AP)

Largest Solar Array in Southeast Powers Up in Sunshine State The Sunshine State has begun to turn some of those Florida rays into energy with the unveiling last week of the largest rooftop solar installation in the southeastern US atop the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Solar panels spanning the length of five and a half football fields will generate power enough to offset the center's $12 million annual energy bill.

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge announced Tuesday that the joint project between Canadians and Americans had succeeded in providing the perfect place for the threatened fish to lay eggs -- just 12 miles southwest of Detroit.
