Several years ago, when I lived in Nebraska, I went into a reading frenzy. I had never really read Science Fiction or Fantasy before, when my (former) brother-in-law allowed me to help myself to his immense collection of such works. I read so many books during that time that they have all ran together in my mind.
One of these books (actually, I believe it's a series), however, has held a spot in my very convoluted brain ever since. I have always meant to read it again. Unfortunately, my memory is ever shrinking, and I can't remember much about it at all. This is where I ask your help. I am going to state the few things I remember, and one of you geniuses will recognize the story and make me a very happy girl.
This book was very likely in a series of seven books.
The main character of the first book has runic tattoos covering his entire body.
The main character possibly hails from a world that is a maze.
The main character has a dog that he calls Dog, and we later find out that this is a manifestation of his compassion (?).
The said runic tattoos can be used to create a magic (like self healing) by touching simultaneously upon certain symbols.
The character goes on some sort of quest through several worlds (one of them possibly comprised of clouds) and I believe that each book in the series describes the journey through a particular world.

My thanks to anyone who has a suggestion 8)
Sounds like the DEATH GATE CYCLE, written by Tracy Hickman and Margeret Weis
If this is indeed the books, you should also read the Dragonlance Series, which are my favorite
Lori B, I looked this up on wikipedia and it does appear to be what I'm looking for. Thank you very much for your help! I'll look into the Dragonlance books also. You're a genius! 8)
Maybe you could also tell me about another (possible) series. I have even less to go on. There is a lady who is a confessor and has long hair based on her status as such. I believe that she travels with a champion, and it is possible they used the term 'Mother Confessor.'
I'll be hyper-impressed if you can help with that! ;)
It does seem the mystery is solved, Shannon. I have read fantasy since before the MOON was created, lol, and amsure LORI is correct.
Now, can someone also remember who wrote the 5 book series of "SUNRUNNERS"?
I want to get the set again.... They ere SO good, by the start of the second, I was Shocked that I could not also shoot fire with my fingertips.
Thanks Penni, I really enjoyed the fantasy lit, but I had a harder time reading the sci-fi books my exBiL had. I will read anything, really. When I had nothing better to read, I read a book case full of romance novels that one of my exboyfriends had because 'they belonged to his mother' XD
It's a shame that you can't shoot fire from your fingertips, that'd be pretty handy!
Sounds like my kind of reading material. I've loved Scifi, since reading Jules Verne. I am iinto David Eddings, and Robert Heinlein.
I've never heard of Eddings, but I've read some Heinlein. Stranger in a Strange Land and Time Enough for Love.
Ok, randall... let's trade ,lol. I have all the "Watershed" books and a few "steven brust
"lying around.
sounds good to me Penni
Wow... lori, up there, is GOOOOD. She gave me the answer to my query too. if any of you see the "Sunrunnners", By : Melanie Rawn (Thanks,Lori!), Grab them! Some of the best I read from over ten years ago....
Heinlein, I think I have read every book from, Randall, but never read David Eddings until someone plopped 6 of his books on my porch. I am a lifelong fan now, lol. I have the first 7 books of 12...Robert jordan, Wheel of time, that I haven't even opened yet.
I hope they are as good as they look!
Shannon here is the series (I think), it is by Terry Goodkind and is from The Sword of Truth
Lori, I bow before your knowledge! Thank you, ever so much, for your help.
the *sword of truth* series is now a really good tv series, Shannon. much like the books. We used to watch on ch44, then it went to Sci/Fi channel and I can't find it anymore. That and the Sunrunners are my all time favs in sci/fi, fantasy. Lori has some Hot knowlege,lol... I also bow to her...
Glad you got your answer, and intrigued myself, because that sounds like a very cool series. I'll have to look it up after I finish the Game of Thrones series by George R. R. Martin, of wich I'm on the third book right now. Oh, and the Dragonlance novels are excellent. If you read them, start with Chronicles.
Thanks Lewis! Yes, the Death Gate Cycle books are very good, I've got quite a list going, but will add George R.R. Martin to it, and hope I get to it soon. I love series, the longer the better! And of course, I am certainly enjoying Way of the Reaper!!! Unfortunately, I only have internet at work, where I can't devote my full attention to the great gather works, so the going is slow on your book 8(
Sounds like a weird read. Glad you found what you were looking for.
I see you found the name of the series Shannon......
I too recommend the Dragonlance Chronilces......
both of these compilations are great reads............
sorry, I couldn't help you out. How did you like Nebraska? Must have been bored to read all those books.
Hahahaha. Funny, Tammy! I love to read, but at the time I was going through a particularly hard time trying to be a housewife in an apartment with only one kid. I had plenty of time to fill!
this one sounds like my type of read too!
have you ever read any of the Asimov books? I just started buying his stuff after reading some short stories. Yeah Im behind in the times but it takes alot for me to try author other than what I am used to. I have a series that I will have to find by another author that might be of interest to you. I am on meds right now so my brain isnt working but if I can remember when i get up I will find it for you.
