Has anyone thought of bringing the troops home, and cleaning up our mess here? What if we used our troops to "police" our streets? What are we doing making other countries safe, when our streets aren't safe.
My daughter can't go to school for the gangs. Children are being shot in drive bys. Whole neighborhoods are being taken over, and local police can't handle the job.
Am I over-simplifying the situation, or is it somewhat reasonable?

Why bring to the troops home to do this? Why can't the people living in these communities "step up to the plate" and start taking their communities back!?
because most the people who live in those areas are basicly hostages to the terror. They don't have the guns the gangs do or the wish to just kill indiscriminantly!
Good question. We have a case in Oklahoma right now, where a pharmacist did just that, and now because "he went to far" he's being charged with murder. Of course, Oklahomans are 69% in favor of the pharmacist, and DA won't get away with this.
I'm not talking about civilians taking up arms against the worst of the criminals. I'm talking about building stronger communities. Citizens getting involved... i.e. using anonymous crime tip lines, getting out and actually meeting the neighbors, attending city council meetings, checking their own behaviors (and the behaviors of their kids), volunteering at schools and community centers, supporting local businesses, cleaning up parks and streets, voting in local elections, etc.
If the community is THAT bad that you can't overcome fear to get out and get involved... or you feel your neighborhood it's worth the effort..... then GET OUT of that neighborhood!
If you could get a police liason to advise, then that empowers a community group. We stopped the violence here by agreeing to pick up the phone over the slightest hint of trouble. There were 4 of us and we'd all call at the same time. Cops got tired of being dragged out of the Subway and actually got to the root of the problems.
Go EM JAY!! THAT is exactly what I'm talking about! People getting involved!
Make the Liberals go out there with their anti-gun rules and clean it up. :P
There only liberals until their kids is shot at or threatened.
You right on target here! My son in California disrepected police until he had to call them about a break in on his property!
You write about liberals, but you obviously have NO idea who they are !!!
How embarrassing for you to hate so inaccurately. But that's how all prejudice works.
Can't do it. It is aganist the law. We have a "Posse Comitatus Act". I wouldn't want it even if we could.
Carol that would be socialism pure and simple. Protect yourself dont expect the goverment to do it for you.
I'm armed and ready.
And it isn't working, is it.
(right winger solutions usually don't work at all in the real world)
A gang member kills a by-stander its a shame. A cop kills a gang member its racial profiling and discrimination and the public cries foul. They could do more if they were allowed to do their jobs.
AMEN!
Amen.
I'm about to do an article on a pharmacist who did the job, and they're trying to crucify him.
Your post reminds me of the movie Deathwish 3. We could use a Paul Kersey to stand up to gangs and take them down.
Police actions and an army at war are two different things. It sounds like your area needs a gang task force. But that might mean raising your taxes to pay for it? Law and order is very expensive.
And sadly the overseas Bush mess can't be undone like it was done. If not undone correctly it would cause power vacuums in those countries, and our meddling would have then left those regions in utter anarchy and chaos. Far worse leaders and brutality usually arise from that.
People here are complaining because the city wants to raise the sales tax by a penny. If it is voted down, they say they'll take 300 cops off the beat. What choice is there?
Citizens have to step up and work with police if you want the gang violence to stop no matter how many officers are available. Either be a victim or get organized and demand the police work with you.
Unless I missed something, during his time after flexing our muscle in Iraq, beefing up security here, we didn't get attacked. I'm all for hard core actions against criminals. killers, any who do not respect the rights of others to live a peaceful secure existence.
Get off your Bush hatred, we're dealing with problems NOW.
Not surprised that crime is getting worse; Obama's district in Chicago had more killings last year than soldiers who died in Iraq last year. go figure! Now, just how successful was he there? and you expect CHANGE???
We didn't get attacked in the last few years is proof of something? Why are right wingers so sort sighted?
Our blatent Bush bunglings overseas with SEVERAL other Nations has made new terrorists and new problems we will deal with for the next century to come, and in ways we can't even imagine yet.
Nora, you are talking to Liberals. It is ok for Americans to die by crinimals, but not protecting other from criminals. We can never go out and defend the innocent, unless a lib orders it, and lets some outside organization handle it.
Are you smoking pot ??? !!!! Are listening to Rush tell you who a liberal is, while you're on something (so your brain is impaired enough to believe it?)??? !!!
I believe that there is a current law that prevents the military from domestic operations (with certain exceptions). On the other hand, most of the overseas troops are "National Guard" which I believe can be called in on domestic operations under more citcumstances than the military.
most of the overseas troops are "National Guard"
Really? When I deployed... it was an active duty Air Force unit.
Peter; "How embarrassing for you to hate so inaccurately. But that's how all prejudice works."
Coming from one of the most prejudice groups out there, and the most deciptive, you should know. How about telling us the truth for once?
"Coming from one of the most prejudice groups out there, and the most deciptive,"
put down your mirror
The United State will take food to Africa and let Americans starve.
We can't have our troops on the city streets. Unless they call marthal law. It's called Posse comitotus act.
we haveno real problems here in my small town,, the big sity is bad, yet I decided to take my family where it is safe... My son left yesterday to learn how to defend his country for us,to help those who need our help...not to deal with what we should handle here. leave our troops out of it,, handle it ourselves..
In the United States, a Federal statute known as the Posse Comitatus Act forbids the use of the United States Army, and through it, its offspring, the United States Air Force as a posse comitatus or for law enforcement purposes. A directive from the Secretary of Defense prohibits the use of the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps for law enforcement. No such limitation exists on the United States Coast Guard, which can be used for all law enforcement purposes (for example, Coast Guardsmen were used as temporary Air Marshals for many months after the 9/11 attacks). The limitation also does not apply to the National Guard when activated by the Governor and operating in accordance with Title 32 of the U.S. Code (for example, National Guardsmen were used extensively by State Governors during Hurricane Katrina response actions). Conversely, the limitation would apply to the National Guard when activated by the President and operating in accordance with Title 10 of the U.S. Code.
Unfortunately, after over 100 years in effect, this Act was almost thoroughly repealed by Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by President George W. Bush on October 17, 2006, in a private Oval Office ceremony. This act allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder."
