If you're anything like me, you use Google hundreds of times a day [ I even use Google as my spell-checker these days ] and your search patterns are no doubt highly refined e.g. 'Search Within Results' and longer & longer search terms. While I'm reading up on the latest news, emerging trends, I Google a dozen times in any given three to four page article for example.
Today, in the pages of Wired, for instance, a rather lengthy three part series was dedicated to all things Google, and I did. I Googled any number of keywords and phrases within the article, searched, and then Googled some more. You might be surprised at what I discovered.
One of these discoveries was the saga of 232 Margarita Avenue, in Mountain View CA, not to mention the limited amount of data ( Web Pages & Blogs ) dedicated to that search-term, precisely ...
Did you know that everytime you entered a search-term and hit 'Enter', Thousands upon thousands of clients 1 actually bid for and purchased that particular search before the page loaded?
1Some where in the middle of the night, two companies, Macroaxis & Dataweb picked up on this article and linked to it in some invisible way. When you do a search, for example, in quotes, " The Secret of Google Revisited " you'll see them, three or four hits up from the bottom of the first page, in the top ten hits.

Eric, this is very interesting. The Internet is still so new that if feels like a land run.
It's quite an amazing thing!
It gets more amazing every moment, literally ... By the way, I tried to add this earlier, Lady Lisa's observation was quite an astute analogy & quite a good choice of words.
Who knew?? This is in the category of you learn something new everyday.
Well, <i>'Utility'</i>, I suppose, is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I nominate 'Google' for whatever the equivilent of 'Man-of-the Year' might be in the twenty-first century ...
Very interesting! I use google too, but of late I have used it via Swagbucks since they use Google as the search engine. With Swagbucks, I get a few points for doing what I would do with google, so why not cash in on some of the points/gift cards is my philosophy. I love google!! and now, Swagbucks too!!
