One of Cedar Points newer coasters is Top Thrill Dragster. TTD is a monster- it towers over the park at 420 feet tall, and launches you at speeds of 120 miles per hour. The coaster is a basic design. You shoot out from the launch station, go straight up the hill at a 90 degree angle, twist so that at the top you are on the top, then come down, twist once, and end up back at the unloading station. All in just 17 seconds.
I will admit it freely and proudly- I'm a wimp and did not try this one. I am getting better about coasters, and trying new ones, but I am not a fan of the lap bar restraint on coasters, and that is all this has- a lap bar. I almost talked myself into it, what with it being a 17 second ride.
But, in the end, I decided not to. This is the only ride in the park Nick has not been on now. I offered to let him, and wait, but he didn't want to go alone.
The coaster provides for an awesome photo opportunity, though! From the front of the park, it looks large, certainly. But, when you are standing at the base of the tower, it looks gigantic, and impressive. It's hard to convey just how massive the structure is, even in photos.

wow looks like FUN!!!
THis is the only roller coaster that I would never get on. My husband and I saw a video on it years ago and I love roller coasters but ah, I'll pass!
To me, I am conflicted. I think- 17 seconds, I can live through 17 seconds. But, then I see how massive it is, and I just cringe.
this was the only one i would not ride. That is because i stood there watching it at one point 2 out of 3 trains did not make it up the hill. I am sure they have fixed the problem, but no
No, this is a problem that has more to do with the balance of the load, and the weather- windy days, and what not. It still happens. Actually, over the weekend, for the 3rd time ever, a load was so perfectly balanced, and the wind was just right, that the train got stuck on the top hill. Seriously! I'd freak.
They had the people rocking back and forth, and it wouldn't go down either side. That would have freaked me RIGHT out.
holy cow. I might try it if we get the money and can afford to go...
wow
I wouldn't ride that coaster for a million dollars! It freaks me out just to look at it and then to hear the stories that the train doesn't always make it up (or down) - eeeek!!
That's what freaks me out! Many coaster enthusiasts want to have that chance- the roll back, or getting stuck at the top. Me? I'd be having a panic attack at the idea of doing it again.
I'm just not into roller coasters as much as I was when I was younger...
This is the only one I haven't ridden, but not for a lack of trying. Each time I've been in line for it, it's started to rain/sprinkle. This is the first ride shut down, because of the speed.
Perhaps this summer you'll be able to!
That looks pretty awesome. I don't think I would go on it though, just not as young as I used to be.
Nick and I joked around- what if we made it all the way down there, and found out our bodies were just not made for coasters anymore?
looks like fun
A bit on the too big side for me, but I hear it is fun. ;)
I would have to pass on this one!
i would have gone on this until you said it gets stuck!
Only 3 times since it was first built several years ago, so it's not often. I'm more worried about the roll back- where it doesn't make it over the hill, so you have to relaunch. Yikes!
LOL It simply does not look fun to me. It looks scary. LOL
OMG, you could hear me SCREAM for miles!
Doesn't say home many days of the summer it's broken down - i've never been on it because it's never running when we go.
That thing is old, and the launch system still breaks down a lot. The one in NJ @ 625' at least works. Cedar Point is still coaster king though with many good ones.
Ummm....yeah. Thanks, but NO WAY!!! I don't blame you a bit for passing on this one :~)
Heck yeah!!!!!!! I would ride that thing over and over again!! I love roller coasters. The more frightening they are the more exhilerating for me! LOL
Okay, I just read the previous comments about how the ride gets stuck and doesn't work right...........hmmmm, that would make me pass I think. I'd end up in the group that gets stuck at the top or halfway down the other side or something.
And that should be "exhilarating". Aargh. Spelling errors annoy me.
I can't wait to ride that one!!!!
That's alright I 'll just watch!
When I was younger, I used to be a dare devil and I would ride any of these things without thinking twice.
Now, not so much.
sounds fun. I have not been to Cedar Point in a long time!
great pictures!
That looks so cool! I'd definitely ride that! :)
