Five minutes from our house in Marstons Mills on Cape Cod MA, is a small airfield that is home to the Mills Air Service. They offer scenic biplane rides, and a few days ago, I took a ride with my wife to celebrate her birthday.
The plane is a replica of a late 1930s design. It was built in the 1980s.

Up to two passengers squeeze into the front seat, sitting side-by-side. The pilot sits in back.

Here I am posing with the plane.

Getting in was a bit of a tight squeeze for me. Once in the cockpit, we put on headgear with mics and headphones built in.

A simple intercom system allowed us to talk to each other and hear instructions from the pilot above the noise of the engine.

Here's a shot of our instrument panel. There are no controls up front. The pilot runs everything from the back seat.

The basic ride costs $100 and lasts about 15 minutes. The views are spectacular.

We flew north, crossing over the Mid-Cape highway, heading toward Cape Cod bay.

We got a great view of Sandy Neck and did a wide turn over Cape Cod Bay.

The salt marshes are fascinating when viewed from above.

Here is the boat channel leading into Barnstable Harbor.

The entire ride was much smoother than I expected it to be. We came in for a perfect landing to end the fun.
Here's a shot of the birthday girl with the plane.

This was a really great experience and one that we'll always remember.
