As will happen some times during a typical summer, our Saturday was taken up by something other than yard sales. The answer was to take Friday off and go YARD SALING! Despite my sneering at the concept of driving from one sale to another we had a pretty good day of it.
Find of the day:

Enormous flying dove suncatcher
price - $5
sold
A white bird in flight
Through which the sunlight passes.
It's oh so fragile.
The thing we were least interested in:

Make an offer sale
price - unknown
no sale
I'll give you a quarter.
I'm don't mean to offend you.
Try pricing your stuff.
Other things we did or did not buy:

Hot rod Cadillac
price - not for sale
no sale
In front of a house
A Frank Lloyd Wright house, I think
There stood this cool car.

Brass candlestick
price - $2
no sale
Yes, I would buy it.
How about twenty five cents?
You see, I see scrap.
.
.
.

Sunbeam mixer
price - $10
no sale
I've bought these at sales
Where the mixer did not run.
I wanted the bowls.

Scooter
Price - $2,450.00
no sale
I've never owned one.
It looks like a lot of fun.
I run on burgers.

Bike
price - $100
no sale
I'd like to trade you
My Hummer for a cycle.
Why will you not trade?
.
.
.

Lawn chairs
price - 50 cents each
no sale
I used to buy these
For the aluminum scrap.
No more. Too much work.

Records
price - $1 each
no sale
So many records.
I could have spent an hour here.
No time though, sorry.
.
.
.

Records
price - $2 each
sold
Hey man, here it is.
Fill it with old socks and stuff.
Won't get a fly high.

Safety goggles and safety chisel
price - a buck each
sold
But for a couple bucks
Four-hundred-dollar lenses
Might not have been chipped.

Warm shirts - $1 each
Hip duds - 50 cents each
sold
Five shirts for resale.
Two garments for God knows what.
These here two don't match.
.
.
.

Ladder hooks
price - $1
sold
Some things are useful
But when they are not needed
They must be hung high.

Plastic Hummer
price - $2
no sale
Wee transportation.
Wee overcompensation.
Ugly jewelry car.

.
.
.
.
.
Jewelry
price - three bags full for $3.50
sold
Lots of strange bangles.
Why let all this go so cheap?
Such sweet tiger eye.

Razor scooter
price - $5
sold
Fifty some years old
I think I'd better pass this on
To one who mends well.

Racket ball rackets
price - 50 cents each
sold
Nothing I would use
I'll take these out west to sell
There's less "stuff" out there.

Walkie Talkies
price - $2
sold
Someone will like these
I'm afraid it won't be me.
I own a cell phone.

Baby scale
price - $5
sold
My mom's shop had one
For weighing petrified wood
And agates and stuff.

Power cutting tool
price - $10
sold
Missing a few blades
But otherwise tool shop new.
Flip the switch. Woo. Torque.

Unworn Cabela's shirts
price - $7 for the two (Saver's Memorial Day sale)
sold
Shunned Christmas presents.
Prized by construction workers
They'll gladly pay twelve.

Very cool finds this week Ron. Believe it or not, I smoked something in that"Big Bamboo" rolling paper once... Back in the day... I think... maybe.
The only other copy of Big Bambu that I've ever seen with rolling paper intact is Wil's. He doesn't smoke but he laughs.
Donna, thank you for destroying your Big Bambu rolling paper (as did I). Everyone did. Well, almost everyone, and as far as I can tell pristine papers like this one now bring anywhere from $50-$100.
LOL..it wasn't mine. I saved mine, and it sold with the album back when I was doing the flea market circuit.
I tihnk I got $10 for it, as a collectable.
I have no intention of getting top dollar for mine. I'll probably sell it for half that, or I'll add it to my "Ebay someday" pile. If you're still out there, do you recall yours being a *real* rolling paper(?) because this is not. It's quite thin, but it's clearly not rice paper. I googled the topic in various ways, along with the word "fake", and I found no controversy about counterfeits (and I assume there would be a hoo ha if someone was doing that).
Yes, it was real, although it was glueless.
Mine is also glueless, and much thinner than a regular sheet of paper, but I'm still dubious about it's authenticity.
Great finds. Great items. You had a good day, Ron!
Thank you, Aunt Boni.
The Suncatcher and Cabela's shirts look like deals to me.
The Cabela's shirts are top of the line, Debra. The suncatcher is going to be so hard to get out to my mom's shop that if it arrives intact, I'll make her charge $50 or more for it.
Some good finds! :)
Thank you, Shannon.
wow, youcan find almost anything at a yard sale. you found some good finds.
We find a great many of our everyday needs at these sales. I can't imagine our lifestyle being maintained without the steady flow of bargains.
What an amazing baby scale. I love it, and the memories that drew you to it.
It was fun reading your beat poetry. You had me in stitches on this one: "These here two don't match."
I believe I'm going to retire my nice scales from the business of weighing scrap, Ms. Meacham. The baby scale will be plenty accurate, and it comes with a much larger platform to place things on.
Perfect!
P.S. Thank you so much for posting this to the Frugal Living group. Much appreciated.
Certainly. It's a very timely group.
Looks like there were some great finds this time!
In order for the yard sale thing to work, it's pretty important to have great finds or a regular basis. Thank you. Jennifer.
I love your finds. For sure I wouldn't grabbed the Big Bambu. I like the suncatcher, too but that seems a little high for me. I don't know. Guess you had to be there. ;) I wanted to go tomorrow but I think we are expecting a stormy yucky day. :( Maybe next week.
Lynn, I find a light rain chases away the competition, whereas the sellers often have garages and go through with the sale anyway. There are some great finds to be had in "bad" weather.
I still haven't made it to any yard sales this year. We tend to spend a lot of time with the garden this year and with the grandchildren too. You always seem to find some great buys Ron. The Cabella shirts were a steal!
Thank you, Sarina. It's almost tiring, there are so many sales. One day is taken up with hitting as many as we can, and the next day we rest and try to fit it all into the house!
Great finds, love the suncatcher!
I'm glad you liked it, Wanda. We have to be very careful with them, as they break easy.
The sun catcher is very cool. The Cheech and Chong album with the rolling paper is the original version of that album. In good to mint condition, it's worth between 80 and 100 dollars. Why do I think "Blues Brothers" every time I look at that hot rod Cadillac ?
I don't know that I've found a cooler, sun catcher, George.
The album is, I think, the original version, even though the rolling paper isn't real rice paper. If the original was rice paper, it would be really hard to insert in the slot the first time around and once removed it would be near impossible to put back without mashing it up. So, even though it's not real, I think it is original.
The car was parked in front of a pretty jazzy house. It's pretty likely it's a local rocker, as the Twin Cities has a pretty storied music scene.
Love the suncatcher. :)
Suncatchers are one of the things we look for the most at yard sales. They are probably popular to give as Christmas gifts; not always so cool to receive. After we collect them from the yard sales, we put them back out there for sale.
