Unfortunately I wasn't chosen for the Crystal Light package Gather sent out earlier, but I decided that I needed to do this challenge just the same. So, when I ran out of soda instead of buying more devilishly delightful soda, I chose something better for me - Crystal Light.
You see, the plan was to get the version with Caffeine. Unfortunately I couldn't find it here :( So, I chose a calcium enriched one (I never get nearly enough of those vitamins anyway) The one I came home with was the Ruby Red Grapefruit flavor.

I like it slightly frozen and very very cold, so I typically stick the glass in the freezer a while before I drink it. It seems to improve the taste. I've also experimented with varied strengths of the mixture. Sometimes adding more water to it and sometimes leaving it be. I'm not sure which I find to be best yet.
So, here's the scoop. My sodas were packing something like 170 calories in a 12 oz can (yes, you read right) and Crystal light? 5 calories. Score one for Crystal Light.
The sodas had caffeine to help me in the mornings. Crystal Light makes it, but I can't FIND that variety. A bit of a boo to our store for not having it. No score either side.
My soda, though generic tasted wonderful and refreshing (it's the carbonation that does this) Crystal Light isn't carbonated - which is good in one way but doesn't satisfy the way soda does. Score one for soda.
The TASTE of Crystal Light takes some getting used to. I'm working on that.Right now I still prefer that sugary soda, but it's natural now. I'm trying hard to ignore that impulse and just accept and learn to like Crystal Light. I'll be trying more varieties in the future to see which are best.
Crystal Light has artificial sweeteners. This concerns me as they are known to cause migraines (and coincidentally I have a headache as I type this) I'm trying not to let it discourage me because I do need this water, but it's at the back of my mind...
So, where do we stand on day one? Well, I certainly did not put away 8 glasses, but I got one down. That's one more than I had all this month. I'd say it's a good start. We'll see how tomorrow goes.

Here's the package details for the Crystal Light

My frosty glass

A rock heart I found in hemlock draw this weekend. Reminding me to do what's best for my body... and heart. :)

Something interesting on the site: If you lose 2-5% of the water in your body you can experience fatigue and headaches. Hmm that explains A LOT. :(
Are you struggling to get your water intake daily as well?

Great post. I do drink a lot of water, but not eight glasses.
I'm not sure many get 8 glasses. Well, at least not anyone I know, LOL.
Even if you have one glass of Crystal Light in place of one glass of soda - you're making a positive change!
Very true. I hope to up those numbers soon. After all I LOVE watching those glasses empty on the website. LOL
It is kind of fun to click on those when you finish a glass!
never tried the red grapefruit.
It's not too bad. Gideon tried it and said yuck LOL. I told him it's not really a kid flavor, though.
What I do with my crystam lite, or benefiber is to add it to a bottle of water. Then sometimes I will put it in the freezer to get icy.
That's not a bad idea. I do the icy freezer thing myself. LOVE it like that
I started this as well. I am a big tea drinker and I mean huge. Like close to 2 gallons a day. I do drink decaffeinated because of my heart condition I have I have a tendency to throw PVC's and caffeine makes them worse. We have been buying crystal lite and a off brand of it and giving it to James in place of Kool Aid him and Eric loves it. If you haven't tried the peach try it that is what I am drinking tonight.
Wow that's a lot of tea. It's real good for you too!
I heard a couple others here on Gather mention the peach. Hmm makes me curious now. :)
NOw that is a really good review on Crystal Light...I might try it sometime too!
Thanks, try it. It's only $3 for the pack I bought which makes 10 quarts. It's not terribly costly (at least not compared to soda LOL)
You could add some club soda to it. I don't think club soda has any calories but it will give you the carbonation that you crave from soda. Even if there are some calories, it will be way less than the soda. Sparkling Lemonade...yumm!
Ohhh that could work. Rather than watering it down with plain water I could add some of that in. I might grab a bottle of it tomorrow.
Thanks!
Good luck with the challenge.
Thanks. Well, considering I don't normally drink water, I'd say 2 glasses for the first day wasn't bad (I finished another up before bed)
Good luck! I am trying to increase my water as well but I don't have any Crystal Light on hand.
Good luck to you too. You can add some fruit juice in it until/if you are able to get Crystal Light.
It might help make it more tasty.
best of luck on this
