Its my fantasy
dancing in an art deco club
softly swaying to simpatico strains
delicately dipping me, first diminutive then deep
a dress out of a movie from the 1940's
soft, pale, can I be Veronica Lake?
does that make you Alan Ladd?
quiet light glances at your hair
my attitude might be demure
but I could do coy
the champagne makes me giggle
remembering the strawberries makes me smile
the conversation, ahh the conversation
light, witty, breezy, banter
with a sprinkling of romance in the air
just an old fashioned fantasy for
a small town girl
who grew up in the big city
revisiting these dreams intermittently
yes I do that from time to time
I realize
I want this celluloid passion
I want to bat my eyelashes
I want to be seen as divine
are flirtations like this real?
ever?
I still have my dreams.

Joan Armatrading Love and Affection [live @ Studio L Cologne, Germany 15 February 1979]

A lot of people don't like Joan Armatrading but I always enjoy her work.
I think she takes some heat because she's not conventionally pretty. Let's see on one end of the spectrum their are real song writers, singers and musicians who look like normal people (Joan included) and the on the other end we have sexpot in go-go shorts who can't play ANY instrument, barely carry a tune, and who's main talent is shaking their butts. I pick the Joan side! *sorry for the rant*
De, I think Joan is beautiful, how could beauty like this come from someone who is not.
I like this a great deal, if for nothing else than its boundless, irrepressible romanticism. Alan Ladd and Vernonica Lake in The Blue Dahila... now that's a great movie.
"my attitude might be demure
but I could do coy"
It's a flirty poem and full of life. Thanks for sharing.
Keep dreaming until your dreams come true.
Dream through the laughter, Dream through the tears (Did I get that right?)

dreams are what can crystalise into reality.
Nothing that you wrote could not be real. What you truly visualise, without the slightest doubt, always comes true.
Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd. Oh, my--you are a romantic, Chana!
Loved both the poem and the video - an excellent contribution to "Music Everywhere"! ;-)
Hugs and blessings - S.
Doing a series of poems based on dances is a great idea. Thank you for posting this to The Surreal Circus.
"A dream is a wish your heart makes, when you're fast asleep" (theme from Cinderella, and follow-up to "When You Wish Upon a Star" from my favorite movie Pinocchio. )
If I weren't dreaming, I wouldn't be alive. You know what my dreams are, Chana! Thank you for posting to our group. HUgs.
I'd triple the 10's if I could!! Don't give up on your dreams, Chana!
perfect 10!
A super lovely spinaround a dreampole~
What would we have if we didn't have dreams ? Beautiful heartfelt poem. I hope they come true for you. Veronica lake.
We all have our dreams and this poem says that no matter which road you travel, you should always keep your dreams alive. Bravo friend! Thanks for posting to my group, Anythingwriting
Dreams can come true when it's personal, but when it's coupled with one more person it's a bit complicated. I loved your poem Chana and liked the video.
Deeply thought provoking...I always loved art deco, the era, the romance, the attitude of coy...great!
Thanks for sharing, very well written~
Thank you so much for the heads up about this marvelous post so I wouldn't miss it.
I adore it.
It's art !!! It's real !!!
And if Ann ever comes back to Gather (slacker... claims a personal life takes precedence... AS IF!), she'll love it too! ;-)
Tracy and Peter, I was actually thinking a little about Ann when I wrote this. I hope, (What do I hope?) I hope she doesn't feel I have tried to steel her fire. And for Peter, Joan C. inspired this just a tad, so I thought of you too.
Love both of them
lovely images, but Alan ladd was sooooo short!
Great poem and a beautiful song--I haven't heard it before.
"my attitude might be demure
"but I could do coy..."
love love LOVE it.
Your writing has a call to me, and I am glad you are sharing it here!
You are exceptional. Many folks are content to be multi-tasking. You are extraordinarily multi-layered with each layer performing exceptional tasks. Your dreams, you hand them out to others like candy for the senses.
Bravo.
This has few layers. It is nice to peel them off one by one.
feeling like a Sunday: a triolet
I listnen to the song while reading your poem...It was so different and appealing.
It is a new wave of reading bringing so caught up into a emotional read .
thank you again
