The Mule Ear Daisy, a Wildflower

The Mule Ear Daisy is one of my favorite spring time wildflowers, but then again all flowers are my favorites I think.

Mule Ears are bright and beautiful sunflowers. Growing along hillsides and  to moderate elevations in the mountains. They are always a cheery sight. It almost seems as if someone planted them in a grand landscaping scheme. In May the hillsides here  are painted in the yellow of Mule Ears and the purple of lupines.

This daisies flowers are sometimes as big as the palm of my hand !  Every Spring I look forward  to seeing them. The following photos were taken May, 22nd, 2009 in the Teanaway Campgrounds near Cle Elum Washington State.

It was like deja vu last year I took photos with the same camera of the same type of flower and there was the same color caterpillar.  Here's photos from May, 20th, 2009 taken in the Taneum Campgrounds a few miles to the southeast of the Teanaway.

The buds are beautiful as well. The leaves right nest to the bud is that of a current bush.

The leaves of the Mule Ear are arrow shaped on short stems.
