Cotton candy dreams in an orange aid sky
In dreams of memories of times that I loved
you came up behind me
not knowing what was wanted or needed
and me
like a girl fresh from the fields
like a woman who has forgotten her last dance
I asked you who you are
Sam I am
tinkling tantalizing laughter
hey, I remember her
she was lost somewhere, but now she's found again
I swear you were not my ambition
orange aid was on my mind
then I saw you, cool blue, long dark (Thank you Joan)
was I tangential in your sight previously I wonder
was there a yesterday?
will there be a tomorrow?
wondering if I am still in the land of the dreamers
is this the sleep of a thousand nights?
don't ever wake me up
if I am the contradiction
are you the rule?
or is it the other way around?
I'm on the road
I'm on the road
I am starving and
I need to be healed
help me to continue the healing sleep

Right on, Chana, keep striving and you'll be healed. Can feel the emotion bursting through and feel a passionate yearning to move forward.
Good stuff
Thank you Spencer! It's Joan, she is so amazing she can help inspire almost anything. Ok, I was also thinking of Marvin Gaye.
Post telephonic attitude adjustment.
What a delightful fantasy/memory from youth!
Thank you for posting this to The Surreal Circus.

Make this work - the sense we are following the disjointed / coherent thought line is well established -
and i always like anyone who plays the Blues.
I like this one, Chana. Love Joan's song as well. It's been ages since I've heard it.
Thank you Janell!
thanks, good one
Thank you Desiree!
Thanks for sharing...
This really lets me see more of how you are, and it's just beautiful..... I could tell you were really into your mind and feelings with this. And don't colors really have an effect on everything and how we perceive it? Music, colors, textures, all of these things combine endlessly to shape our feelings... I love this poetic manifestation of those elements.
Not sure what to call you, lol! Thank you so much for your comment! It is kind of a strange colour to pick for desire. Blue is usually assocated with heartbreak, but I don't get that from this song. Blue is "I am miserable without you, my heart is breaking, etc." for the most part. To me she is saying "I saw you and my heart melted, I am looking for you even if I can have fun elsewhere, where are you". I am not sure this quite makes sense. Just my take on the song.
That's a wonderful poem, the honesty is just great. You presented your emotions with such intensity that I related to every word. I especially liked this passage:
I swear you were not my ambition
orange aid was on my mind
then I saw you, cool blue, long dark
There's almost an Anne Sexton quality to some of your poetry. The wry, sardonic wit that you bring to sadness and heartbreak is very attractive.
Jason, The lines you picked out are actually not mine. That is why they are in italics. Those are the words of Joan Armatrading who wrote the song "Cool Blue Stole My Heart". This song grabs me where I live. I just wrote a variation on this one.
Great variation. :)
Showing you feelings . It's so good to express. I also like the video. Thanks for sharing.
i saw Joan at the Ice House in Pasadena in the 80s sometime, she was great!
Georgie, she is one of those artists that amazes you when you hear their records and then when you hear them live amazes you even more. I saw her twice in concert, once in a small venue (The Cellar Door in WDC) and then a larger one (The Warner Theatre in WDC) and she didn't fail to please either time.
Interesting and heartfelt take on her lyrics, Chana. And I can see how this performance would speak to you.
I just love the opening lines. Wow! Thank you for posting to our group. I'll be back again to re-read. Hugs.
What an amazing poem and love Joan Armatrading. Used to get into her many, many years ago...
You and I have a lot of musical tastes alike.
very interesting Chana... i enjoyed this and the video too... Bless you...
I'm very impressed by your continued inspiration based on songs! I would love to read even more.
Thanks for posting to my group, Anythingwriting
i concur. -pretty much universally...
...though there is yet much to be learned from you, when it comes from music.
