I wrote an article about copy and pasting and it created a fire storm among a few who don't like it with those who do. Now, somebody has gone and flaged all the news articles I had posted today. Nice! I wonder who it could be?
Duh, I wouldn't have any idea, I am just a person to dumb to do anything other than copy and paste.

awww, how nuts is that
hugs 2 ya
So sorry that happened to you.
I even did what Kevin said and reduced everything to a snipet and a link. Now, I didn't know posting links to news articles was illegal.
its not...
it's not. I highly doubt it's anyone who usually speaks out on the site about copy & pasting and copyright infringement. They all know gather doesn't handle that issue via flag anymore, and hasn't for a long time. It's either someone who just wanted to be a jerk, or someone who doesn't understand how gather works in this regard.
I checked out the article, Sheryl, and, as far as I can tell, you did everything right......
So, whatever you do, don't blame yourself.........
Thank-you.
I agree with Berf on this one, because you did do what Kevin said, so I wouldnt worry about the flags, once gather sees that its not against TOS they'll take it off, i'm pretty sure :)
I just looked, and oh ya, I got low rated lol. Awwwwwwwwwww shucky darn!!!!!!!
Oh, and watch out, this could be considered a hate speech!!! Dan H got flagged for that after one post, that had nothing to do with hate!!
I know, I am such a terrible person! lol!
oh yes, so terrible for wanting to share the news... YOU SHOULD BE IMPRISONED!! what a headline that would be.. imprisoned for spreading the news everyone can see online...
I'm just stating what happened after some people got peeved at me over my articles. And, the flagging happened after I had fixed them.
Some people are just immature i guess. You cant escape it. I never flag, never had a need to. If I dont like what it says, i close the tab and move on. Everyone has their own opinion out there, why should I judge them upon it?
LOL @ Krystal!
The flag being added after you fixed them should have told you right then that no one who had commented before flagged them. Or we would have flagged them before they were fixed and then if you fixed them after being flaged which is against TOS you could be in trouble because when you are flaged you must wait for gather to review the content before you "fix" it. Those who know the rules do not waste our time on usless flagging.
That stinks, I'm sorry you are having such an issue with it
"I even did what Kevin said and reduced everything to a snipet and a link. Now, I didn't know posting links to news articles was illegal."
You didn't do anything wrong, someone just decided to flag you. Typical Gather lately, isn't it? If you're worried at all about it, as I see no reason for the flags to be there in the first place, email Gather, they have a Contact Us form that you can submit. Anyone notice that there's been a whole lot of this lately? If I flag at all, it's my own posts, and usually for Adult Content, as I'm totally confused as to what that is now!
Don't worry, you did nothing wrong.
Marilyn
Yup, I'm the same way, just flag my own things :)
The articles are still veiwable so I am not doing anything, will let Gather figure it out.
OHOH, I got a low rating, lol.
I dont even look at the raitings anymore, and I just let them be. Just think, anyone that wants to low rate you is just doing you a favor by giving you views, and more points! :)
Yep, thats the way I think, but with the flagging I had to look to see if they also hit the ratings lol. Isn't it funny, they give me points to mess up ratings that don't mean anything anyway?
Wierd.
It's good to know about this kind of thing happening.
If this is the biggest problem in your life, consider yourself lucky
I didn't say it was a problem. In fact I am happy to know how to post the articles right.
I just think whats happened is funnier than hell. Don't you gotta love human nature?
Oh yeah it's totally LOL worthy to make a buck off of someone elses work. I don't know if I should LMAO or ROTFL at the situation.
I didn't flag you because I have better things to do. But I agree with the flag *shrug*
some people!
Heres a 10.......i see no difference between verbally telling someone about an interesting issue you may have heard on the news, and copy/pasting and snippet and link for them to see..........dont worry about it.
I wouldn't worry about it. I think the trolls are getting bored so now they are flagging. I have never seen so much flagging going on as it has been in the last month. When people flag over and over and it is unnecessary, gather needs to remove them from the site. They are only causing problems for the members as well as the gather staff.
Sheryl,
I'm sorry that this happened to you. I have reviewed the content in question and couldn't identify any problems that would warrant them being flagged/reported.Hopefully Gather will remove the flag for you soon.
There are two primary issues surrounding 'copy & paste' content, specifically relating to news stories. Either one could lead to your content being reported/low rated. One legitimately, the other, not.
First, there is the copyright/fair use and TOS concerns, which you addressed. The second relates the age-old debate over original content vs. copy & paste. Publishing news story 'snippets' in the community competes with member content taking more care and time to construct. Therefore, the more of this type of content you publish, the more animosity you will likely receive (I'm not saying this is right, but it's just the way the community is wired).
Keep in mind that your content is seen by more than just members connected to you. Content taking seconds to publish will, or can, overwhelm other work which some members may struggle over for hours. This, combined with the fact that you typically offer no personal observations or opinions of the items, just a snippet and link, does devalue the community somewhat.
Hence, this may have led to your work being reported. Although, again this is not a legitimate reason to flag content, but it is a legitimate reason to rate it low.
I hope that helps!

Im not sure what article it is that is flagged I choose not to click on a bunch to try and find out. But if the poster just copy and pasted something with out any orginal comments from herself in the article Im guessing here from what mary anne said that would be considered a TOS violation?
Thanks for sharing. Just letting you know your content has reached 25 comments and has been removed from !!Need More Points!!
Sorry this has happened to you Sheryl... As you can obviously see, there are a few who have an dull ax to grind with me personally and I suspect that once I commented on your article, they replied in their usual condensending fashion and then I clairified myself, which might have set their teeth gnashing again. Those who are actually serious about "helping" others, certainally don't express themselves such as they did but hey, there's a lot of self professed member police around gather land and some of them are trolling around, grinding their axes in search of those whom they can hack apart.... Sad but true...
sandy dear what you have to say would not cause any of us to flag an article of someone else. but I would not put it past someone flagging her and pointing the finger at others to have done it. hum, now I wonder who is doing that. we may not know who flagged her but guess what gather will know. And flagging with out reason can get your account deleted :) have a great day
"gather will know".So true Angela... Gather DOES know.. Some members aren't aware of that fact? We members can only guess who's doing it. Gather knowing all is comforting enough for me to know as some, according to personal replies from gather to me after requests for flags to be removed, plainly stated.... The member or members in question have been warned to cease their unwarrented flaggings. I can understand folks low rating and flagging other's work if and/or when they actually believe it's deserved and/or necessary. However, all to many low ratings and flaggings are done simply as discriminatory behaviour rather than for the best interest of the member community...... That's why many, many members have asked and asked gather to upgrade their ratings and flagging policies which would encourage more honest member actions rather than encourage the ignorant drive bys or those expressing their own personal vendettas through anonymous actions.... An all to common habit for those who may have axes to grind and don't wish others to discover who they are and why they habitually do what they do.....
Angela,.. Have you ever heard the old expression that "suspicion haunts the guilty mind?" lol...
That's a shame, Sheryl.
