I have been called a Nazi, irritating, stupid, and other things. I've been idolized, and ostracized, so what to do? Write on! This is America, and those of you who don't like my politics or the politics of others should continue to write the:
Here are some article suggestions for those of you who don't like politics and have warned me to not say my piece:

- What are you doing this weekend?
- What is your favorite television show?
- What type of music do you like?
- Do you own a dog?
- What is a word that ends in "S"
I could go on, but I like politics. I am a conservative who is sick of people who write dribble and call it poetry, and then, send it to me in an email, so I have to tell you how wonderful it is when I don't want to read it. I am a teacher of English who gets paid to read and grade poetry. Do you want a grade? Do you want my honest opinion of your talent or lack thereof? No?
So I block you.
I don't care what you write about on Gather. I write poetry, plays, short stories, but have found little if any interest in true literature on Gather. I won't put my work on Gather. I chose to use Gather as a sounding board for my opinion on a variety of subjects, so don't lecture me on what to write about. I am an activist who would much rather debate with someone whom I disagree with, than find out what you're having for supper tonight. Not that supper doesn't have it place occasionally on Gather, but that kind of dribble and begging for views of your so called poetry, will be the death of Gather.
There are a few truly talented people on Gather, but it is not the site for literature. So, stop emailing me your poetry that you whack out on your word processor like Nabisco whacks out cookies.
I even tired of La La Land. It was fun at first, but it got copied by others who dared to try, but did not succeed. So knock yourselves out. I wish you well, but leave me to my own joys.

See but as a liberal I don't read your stuff, no offense but there is no changing your mind. It seems all politics does on Gather is start fights. So unless you like defending yourself and being called names I say don't post it. In some circles its rude to talk about religion and politics, some things should be kept to yourself. I like to ask myself am I really doing any good by posting this?
Yes I post "dribble" as you call it, I've never sent out a mass email. If you read it you do if you don't you don't. America is a free country so do what you gotta do.

Too many here want you to think the way they do, and not to think for yourself. I agree with much of what you have said. I don't know what you think of some of my works, but that is up to you, it is not to me to force you to read it. Politically we agree on many thnigs, and have many of the same mindless morons that make rude and obnoxious comments to us for daring to think for ourselves while they follow what they are told to.
Personally I enjoy a good debate, but have found Gather is not really a good place for it. People usually agree or attack, and few actually want to debate intelligently.
Let's work on changing it, Dan. There are some new ideas in the works and hopefully it will help keep everything in perspective. Don't give up debating yet!

You know that our politics differ, but I always follow your threads. If I have nothing nice or civil to say, I move on.
I think you should continue to write on politics because your thoughts are well organized and well presented. Whether I agree with them or not is totally second place.

Everyone has a right to write what they deem fit. It is also okay to disagree and have a difference of opinion...but both sides have got to be open to let others disagree and if something is said that isn't agreeable, take it with a grain of salt. It is only a moniter that a person is reading, not someone on the couch. (ok, I now I get overboard via some "fundies" stuff, but I try and do it with humor...but they bug me in real life also....slaps head)

Nellie, what was said was very degrading, insultive and out of line with the TOS. Now on Gather, if you're a Liberal you can do this without penalty, but any one else would get a TOS warning, their post blocked, and could get worse. Liberals can do what they want, and others have to be careful with the staff here.
But there are some very good peope, so I keep coming back, but it does tick me off though.

Personally... I respect folks for posting about politics. I'm tired of the "I'll just sit in my corner and quietly pout about the world around me" crowd that don't/won't take a stand and don't/won't get involved. Having said that though, the name calling is bit much. I'm really turned off of the post when an article 'goes sour'. It's difficult to view someone's point as "intellectual" or "thought-provoking" when their words are hidden between childish rants!

It "sounds" (reads) like you needed to rant and get out your frustrations. I don't send out mass emails. I think I've sent out maybe 6 in almost 3 years on gather and that was a long time ago. I block people who send a lot of mass emails to my gather email. I think hipocrisy is present on both sides of the political spectrum. I wish that people could debate their politiical view and opinions without personal attacks. I respect the fact that you like to write about politics. I think you might consider the fact that people should have the same respect for writing about whatever they chose on gather. If someone finds gather a creative outlet for their "poetry" or writing, it sounds a little hurtful to label it dribble. Art in any form is subjective ...... My son is always asking me if something is good like his artwork etc. It is to me, but certainly can't and shouldn't be compared to Monet. People don't always create or write to be graded, but to express themselves.

It is getting harder and harder to find decent subject matter here on Gather. I hooked up here on Gather at the beginning because of the political comentary and debate. I love to read political articles even when they showcase views different from my own. Do not stop expressing your views. That is what Gather is all about or at least used to be.
I will never stop. I came here to use it as a writing site, but found no one payed attention to my work. I love to write, but won't waste it. I'd rather be buried with it, and use a flashlight.

I personally just post to post. I'm not a critical writer--mainly because I'm not any good at it and secondly b/c I analyze things most of my day for work. Now, I'll read what others write and if I don't agree I may state so and why...not just berate the writer. Everyone is entitle to their opinion...isn't that one of the great things about Gather? But to atack people for their opinions...I don't think that is right either.
If you are going to continue to write your conservative opinions you should expect the name calling and weak, petty, childish responses. If a liberal calls you a name you won the argument. it happens all the time to conservatives. That's why liberals have a class and group name for all their beloved victims and a character and denigrating name for those who don't agree with them. Name calling is easy. being honest in what you believe when you are conservative isn't. They wont exchange ideas or debate points of view.....they will hate you.
