If you're a dedicated beach bum like me, it's likely you eagerly await Dr. Beach's annual list of the 10 best beaches. Dr. Beach, formally known as Stephen P. Leatherman, is the director of Florida's International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research. His list was released yesterday, right in time for summer fun in the sun:
The top beach this year is Hanalei Bay in Kauai, Hawaii. Dr. Beach says about this awesome stretch of sand and sea, "The sheer beauty of Hanalei Bay is breathtaking. It's really an idyllic setting."
The runners up include:
-Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida;
-Coopers Beach in Southampton, New York, on Long Island (and one of my personal faves);
-Coronado Beach in San Diego, California;
-Hamoa Beach in Maui, Hawaii;
-Main Beach in East Hampton, New York, on Long Island (the beach where celebrities bask in the sun and another personal fave - we spend a few days vacationing in East Hampton every summer);
-Cape Hatteras in Outer Banks, North Carolina;
-Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne, Florida;
-Coast Guard Beach on Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and
-Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
Dr. Beach selects the 10 top beaches based on criteria that includes the temperature and quality of the water, sand, cleanliness, facilities and overall safety.
Have you ever been to any of these beautiful beaches?
