I'm only on the 3rd day of my Gluten-Free Diet, and it has definitely been a challenge while living in a house FILLED TO THE BRIM with everything Gluten. I have a carb-loving family.
So I was making peanut butter and fluff sandwiches for my cousins tonight, dipping the knife in the peanut butter, smearing it on the bread, licking the peanut butter off the knife and putting it in the sink.
Stop. Uh-oh. Cross-contamination. Did I really just do that?
Can't beat myself up about it. Stick the knife in the fluff, smear it on the bread, put it in the sink WITHOUT licking it. Put the sandwich together, get a little peanut butter and fluff with bread crumbs on my fingers and lick it off.
Uh-oh. Again. Did I REALLY just do that?
How am I going to break 25-year habits like that??
My sister, Tina, is picking up pizza and joked about how if I already messed up I may as well eat pizza tonight. Nope. Not going to cave. Pizza is my favorite guilty food and I am NOT going to cave. Gotta stay strong. I have gluten-free pizza in the freezer with REAL cheese that I can make if I want it. I can do this, I can do this, I can do this.

You can stay true to your diet Michelle! I have faith in you!
You can do it!!! Ditto what Beth said! :) *HUGS*
You can do it!
Yes, honey, you CAN do this. Hang in there...changes from improved health will start showing up soon. Hang in there.
Good luck...I'm trying to cut most of it out of my diet too...boy, it's hard.
Are you doing this for medical reasons?
Hang in there! YOU CAN DO THIS!
Wow that must be really hard!
YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
Hey, do you have a REWARD system set up for yourself? It really does help to have one.
I'll be thinking of you and sending "stick to it" vibes your way all weekend!
That would be a very difficult diet to be on...
Good Luck!
Netty, I have Crohn's Disease. I had a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy on April 1st and just talked to my doctor on the phone a few days ago about the biopsy results. I have no active flare of the Crohn's Disease, but the results came back that I may have Celiac's Disease or a Gluten Intolerance, so I'm doing a 3-month experiment with the GF Diet to see how it makes me feel. It may be a lifelong change, we'll see.
Good luck with it. I was just going to say, better have some blood work if you haven't already, or you could make yourself feel worse! Glad you're on top of that.
It is going to be hard with a carb filled home, but I will say it too. YOU CAN DO IT!
You can do it! I know many who have gone GF for health reasons with great results.
You can do it, Michelle. It won't be easy at first, but I know that you can do it.
It's a lot harder than most people realize to eat a gluten-free diet. I slid off the wagon on Wed. and had some pizza but it was organic flour. LOL
Whole Foods has a great frozen pizza shell that I made two weeks ago that is gluten-free. Every now and then, I want pizza, sorry!
Trader Joe's has a great selection of brown rice pasta.
Can you tell I love Italian food!
I JUST found my new favorite snack food! I bought Glutino's pizza-flavored breadsticks. They are more like crackers, and small - and would even work as breadcrumbs if you crumble them up. I was munching and thought they would taste AWESOME dipped in tomato sauce or sausa, and then I had a great idea. I poured shredded mexican cheese on top of it and nuked it in the microwave for 25 seconds. YUMMY!!
I get to snack on something that tastes like carbs - but is Gluten free! It tastes like goldfish, but better, and kinda melts in your mouth. :)
Michele..I wish you the bestest with this ...
Good luck!
good luck to you. I was following the no sugar no flour diet and I was eating ezekial bread. have you tried it? they have cereal also. its found in the organic food section of your grocery store in the freezer. they also have a website. http://www.foodforlife.com
I tried one kind of Ezekial bread 4 years ago when I was first diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and told I might benefit from 'no wheat', before really knowing what that meant, and I didn't like it. But it was only one kind. I might go and try some of the other ones and see if I can find one I like. Thanks for the reminder. :)
it does take some getting used to. I hope you find one you like. I`ve never tried the cereal but I have tried the muffins and the bread.
My sister just transitioned her whole family to a gluten-free, dairy-free diet... Her kids are 8 and 6. They have been on it for a month now and are seeing some great results. I totally think my family could do it (maybe not the dairy free part because I LOVE cheese), but we eat mostly meat and fresh veggies and fruits... My sister did say it was more challenging to have to plan ahead for snacks and lunches for the kids --- lots less of the convenience type foods, but then again, most prepackaged food is all crap anyway! Her challenge was that her kids didn't eat much fruit, so she is introducing fruit and forcing them to expand their horizons! Her family is much healthier! (her daughter has lost 20 pounds over the past year --- she had 20 pounds to lose!) and while weight loss wasn't what started them on the diet, they have all benefited from eating fresher foods! Good luck with your 3 month trial!
I totally love cheese, too! I'm not sure I could or want to do a dairy free part of the diet, not unless I start having trouble digesting it. I think Goat's milk is easier on the stomach than cow's because it lacks the enzyme or protein that many people are intolerant to, and I DID want to try adding that in. Nic and I want a dairy goat at some point in our future. For now it's just the Gluten, though. :)
