I have written about my dad, in posts and a lot of comments where I explained he was an actor. I found some of his professional head shots and you might recognise him. He was well into his 60s here, but in his early days he was Carstairs in Sherlock Holmes "Terror By Night", "Casablanca", "Funny Girl", Dr. Doolittle", Forever Amber, "Flesh & Fantasy and about 30 more. He can be found on IMDB and other sites.
Geoffrey steele was his name.
Here is pt. one of "Terror By Night", dad is Roland Carstairs, first seen at Euston Station...

Thank you Devaa, I think you and Putul and your daughter are wonderful as well. Now we shall have to meet if and when I come to India.
my father was in the British cavalry and loved India and Egypt, where he had to serve in the 1930s. During the Raj! (sorry!)
Ok, I thought had seen him before. I have seen that episode. I may even have it, I have several Rathbone Sherlocks, tho I prefer Jeremey Brett's Sherlocks more.
Yes, 1942 I think it was, he was all of 27 or so, Carstairs is the young Englishman who hires Holmes and Watson to protect his mothers HUGE diamond, he is killed on the train journey!
wow!! that's awsome that i'm connected to his daughter on gather. Goes to show you it's a big world out there, but gather makes it a small one :)
krystal,
Both my parents were actors and I worked in the biz as well, it is just another occupation, and a sparse one at that!
He does look familiar.
A true Thespian. I do enjoy watching the various actors in the Sherlock Holmes series. These films usually had fine acting performances. I'm sure your dad was quite skillful. I shall try to remember to notice him.
I'm not much of a movie buff.
Good looking man. Looks a bit British in attire and pose.
OMG I remember him! I love those all those old movies and am slowly adding to my collection of dvd's of them. He's a handsome fella to be sure...
He was the crush all my girlfriends had when they were kids, we were kids! LOL
I wrote a piece called "21 Years Fly By" on the 21st anniversary of his passing and there are more pics from when he was younger. He died in 1987 at 72 of pneumonia.
Cool!
Debra! sorry, I was trying to put the Part 1 link to Terror by Night in my comment and accidently deleted yours! Sorry, here is the corrected link anyways, and I find it was 1946, which means dad was 33!
Nice pictures.... I'm not sure I saw any of this movies though.... cause they were before my time
oops.... should have read not sure I saw any of HIS movies
Cool! But it's not Literature, so . . ???> Later on
It is a photo essay Paul, not still chafing over not having your stories accepted on music lovers are you? Go ahead and post, but I am instructed to have music only on Sarah's site!
I'm not sure I've ever seen any of his movies, but the pictures are great.
Very cool and great pics!
He's beyond handsome Georgie, he radiates pure human beauty~
he was an old school British Gent!
Very British and upright, if I am not wrong. He looks a personality to share thoughts.
of being watched
Very intuitive of you Poddar. From the time I could walk we always took an evening stroll through the back yard talked about our day. He was my early 'chat room'! LOL
I definitely recognize him. I am positive about the two last pictures. Iwas a real movie goer growing up. There was nothing else to do in my small hometown. I even saw "Forever Amber" with Linda Darnell as the star.
Another interesting tidbit about you!
"Forever Amber" ! I recall when I came running into the living room as a child as I heard my fathers voice on TV. I couldn't recognise him at first as he was all in the pre-French Revolutionary costume!
He does look familiar.
What a remarkable personality your father was, dear Georgiana! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
yes, he was well loved!
I am sure I saw this movie, all these movies were big when I was young, and was about 20 when this came out, so we followed them all, was 15 cents to get in to see a double feature, everyone could afford a movie then, and of course the black and whites were about all there were, except for the big exceptions. Great photo essay Georgiana
This one is shown all the time late at night. Believe it or not, I remember when movies were about 25 cents!
It is so neat for me as he was 33 here, I wan't even born till he was 36!
thank you for showing us your most talented father......i do believe his talent rubbed off on you........
I will be sure to look out for him, Georgiana!
well, maybe on TCM and A&E and oldie re-runs! Or DVD
Great post. He DOES look familiar.
I'll keep an eye out!
I remember him. In re-runs, of course. :)
Of course! He has been gone since Feb. of 1987!
yep, I have seen him before.
It must have been quite an experience to see your dad on tv!
when I was little I thought everybody was on TV! LOL
It is great to be able to see both my parents now and again, walking adn talking and younger than I am now!
Georgiana, Very cool! What a wonderful legacy! You must be very proud. I would be!
I see you found my dad Carol!
Proud? He was my dad! but yes, now, more than then!
How exciting . . . you shoud be a very proud daughter :) I love these old movies, I will definitely look for him. Thank you for sharing, Georgiana
yes, he is in there. He is also in a great old book called "Adventure in Vision" about the early days of television. Acted in and directed a play called "Marigold", broadcast from the Alexandria Palace in London in 1936 it is listed as the very first play broadcast on electronic television in the world for the BBC.
How very cool.
how cool to have an actor for a parent! was he entertaining at home as well?
my mother was an actress as well, Mildred Shay was her stage name.
Dad was very quiet but quite funny, always answered with a pun even if he was intending to get serious, think I got that from him!
Wonderful ! I was too young when these movies were released. I was born in 1945. However these video clippings (I viewed two) were sort of refreshing. Thank you so much for sharing, 'great ' daughter of a great father !
Yes, you were but 1 year old when this was released! I am a 49er!
