I was told to always use salt in boiling water before putting eggs in to prevent cracking.
that does work I do it too
If you have a little wine left in a bottle - rather than throw it out, put it in an ice-tray and freeze. It's then ready to add a few cubes to a stew or casserole, without opening a new bottle for a small amount.
good one, Ishbel. I'm going to use that.
I drink it from a box !!!
A BOX? Philistine!
SherylO - I've used that tip for nigh on 30 years.... It's fine as long as the ice-trays or those plazzy ice-bags don't leak all over your freezer!
To peel a boiled egg. Crack the egg shell totally on the counter (loosens the membrane). Roll egg between the palms until it slips right off.
Store celery: Wash celery. Cut into 6 inch strips. Wrap in packets tightly with aluminum foil. Keeps for weeks in fridge.
Line pan in foil and pam foil to speed clean up. (canned biscuits, frozen pot pies, etc)
Put unused lettuce head in plastic grocery bag. Twist top, and refrigerate.
To store unused onion tomato parts etc, place in cheap flap sandwich bag, twist closed. Store with flap down.
did know about the eggs
I have to say, I'm not a fan of keeping ANY foodstuffs for weeks...!
you all have great tips keep them coming I cant wait to see what else you come up with
Many foods keep for weeks. Just re-wash the celery, etc.
To make dog's coat shiny and soft and reduce shedding, feed it a scrambled or mashed boiled egg 3-4 times a week. Truly works after awhile and most dogs love eggs.
If you have a toothache, get some warm water, add some salt and swish it around in your mouth by the tooth that is hurting.
If your stomach hurts drink some water with baking soda in it.
Freeze your grapes for cold sweet treat LOL
OMG they are so good. I have been eating them like that for years.
But tips about what exactly?
You know when the dryer eats up one half of your pair of socks, you can use the remaining sock as a heating pad. Just fill it with some long grain rice or dried beans and tie a knot in the top. Heat in the microwave for two minutes before using.
i use odd socks to hold catnip for my cat
Instead of buying expensive cleaners for washing windows, use a spritz bottle of plain white vinegar, it works better and is natural as well.
i put a cup of white vinegar in with laundry
Add a little (1/4 cup or so, depending on the size of the load) of baking soda in the last rinse of your laundry, as long as you're using warm/hot water, which will act as your fabric softener in the dryer.
Oh Sonia,
Forgot, thanks for the friend-invite :)
ziplock baggies are awesome! I usually use freezer ones because they are sturdier. but the snack size is great for stashing little things together!
Okay, here are a few: Make your own fabric refresher by mixing fabric softener with water and spraying around the house. Also, an all natural way to kill fleas on your dog and not harm the dog is to bath them using Murphy's Oil Soap ($3.88 around me... for the huge bottle) the dogs can lick themselfs and if won't hurt them, but it kills the fleas instantly.
Oh crap! I forgot! PIF!
So far as helpful tips: When baking, use the butter wrapper to grease the pan.
Speaking of vinegar, rather than using commercial floor cleaners, I use water with a little vinegar.
