My kids each have a webkinz. they love the website. However, my oldest daughter just told me that she had a message saying her account needs renewed. ??? What?? It was a free site that went along with the purchase of the webkinz. Well, apparently, either they don't tell you, or I missed it in the fine print, that the free website is only for 1 year. After that the ONLY way you can renew is to buy a new webkinz. UGH. I don't want to buy a new webkinz because my kids don't play with the darn toys!! They just like the website. And, even though I refuse to pay for kids websites when there are a zillion free ones, I can't even do that if I wanted to. The last thing I need around here is another unplayed-with toy that my kids won't let me get rid of without a major fight.
This really makes me mad.... If I'd have known that I wouldn't have bought the darn thing to begin with. Or at least wouldn't have bought one for my youngest child until this site was about to expire and then they could have both played on one "membership."
*sigh* - already 1/2 hour of whining has ensued from this....
My kids have been soooooooooooooooooooooo grumpy this last week or so and I'm so over it.

Wow, I never knew that webkins is only free for a year! I'm glad I never bought one.
I play Neopets myself. Its 100% free with the option to buy a membership for small things (like being ads free)

It's the yucky weather making everyone cranky. :( We are too. I hear ya about the kids website drama. My son and half his class plays on some new site. $9.99 a month. You can play free but only a few levels. So I had to listen to "But Maaaaaaa..... Everyone else has the membershippppppppppppp why can't IIIIIIIIIII?!?!?!?" I made him do chores for the entire day to work for it and then I bought 1 month for him. Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon.

Yes, Webkinz memberships are only good for a year. They pull us in the get us hooked. (although my dd has said that rumor has it they really don't take away your account-I have too much invested to test this theory)
A good inexpensive way to re-up is to watch for sales at Walgreens. A lot of times they will run B1G1 free specials on their lil kinz so you can get 2 for 6.99. If your kids don't play with the stuffed animals you can always donate them to a local charity.
Oh btw- speaking of free websites for kids I have a post about the Precious Girls club (by Precious Moments). It has a free basic membership option.
