I was intrigued by the round ripple patterns that increase in the number of points so I set out to make my own pattern ( Visit Monica Kennedy's Craftsy Pattern Store »). The dogwood blossom has always been a favorite of mine and I have made granny squares with them often. I thought it would be perfect to use the granny square as the means to increase points. This pattern increases from an 8 point round ripple to a 16 point round ripple. With the delicate yarn and big hook you will end up with a gorgeous heirloom quality afghan sized for a baby/toddler that will make an unforgettable baby shower gift or can be used as a doily on the back of a chair or couch.
What I also love about this pattern is the use of the L hook. It is larger than suggested for the yarn weight, but it works quickly and adds softness to the finished product and also gives it a very delicate lacey appearance. It is also very good for people with eyesight issues or dexterity problems because the larger hook and stitches are easier to do.
