Yesterday, my daughter had back pain. It was quite severe, so I took her to the emergency at Childrens. We arrived just before 2: 00pm. We left at 7:39pm after I became furious.
I am patient, and understand doctors are busy, but when the doctor finally came in about 6:00, he left to check on my daughter's urine sample. He didn't come back and I mean after 45 minutes, I went looking for him. I found him, in a little room sipping coffee.
I said, "My daughter needs to use the rest room. What happened with her sample?"
He looked up from his coffee and said, "It's too old, so we'll have to get a new one. I told him, "When were you going to say something?"
By then it was 7:15pm. I told him, I was leaving at 7:30. No, he said.
Yes, I said. They were able to get a new sample and have me out of their by 7:39.
Believe me, I will file a complaint. What a useless piece of s*it. Do these doctors think we have nothing to do besides wait for them. The waiting room was packed. I was handing out puzzles to kids to try to entertain them. I am furious. A six hour wait is one thing if they're working, but to make people wait six hours while this jerk sips his coffee is disgusting. The hospital will receive a copy of this exact article so that they know I blogged.
This is Childrens Hospital in Oklahoma City. There were sick people next to well people, a baby all blody with a bandaged head, and my daughter in great pain all waiting over six hours. Now, how about that, Children's Hospital?

Good idea
That is absolutely terrible and I am glad you are sending them a copy....
you might also want to do what someone else said they did and send a copy to the newspaper. This should not be happening.
Unfortunately, if the great "O" gets his wish, this will become the norm.
I hope you can find some help for your daughter and she feels better.
I am upset we moved away from the only hospital I have ever seen do it right. The hospital my Mom works at (which unfortunately is a 2 hour drive for me) does an excellent job. When you sign in your are sorted to either "express care" or "longer". The longer care people are the people who are really sick or dehydrated etc. The express care are the people just needing stitches, potential broken bones, etc and they pretty much get fixed up and sent back out right as they are triaged saving the rooms for the people who are going to be around a lot longer. They have one doc and a few interns dedicated to moving the express care people through quickly and if/when no express care they help out with the patients in the more involved care areas. The longest wait I have ever had in that hospital is ONE hour and even that wasn't bad as they have a customer service person handing out coloring books and crayons to the kids and they also hand out complimentary popsickles, crackers, snacks, small cans of pop, etc. to people in the waiting room having a diffiicult time of things. You can tell they really care about their patients there. They don't take people first come first serve either like a lot of places do - they take them based on the urgency of the problem. For instance someone with food poisoning would be taken back before say someone with bronchitis.
PLUS another thing that is wrong with the system are people who go to the EMERGENCY ROOM for non emergency crap. I SWEAR I have never seen such idiots that go in there for stupid stuff that could have waited for a doctor but they figure since medicaid is paying it and not them and they don't have a copay they treat the emergency room like a doctors office. That crap needs to STOP! FOR INSTANCE when I tore a ligament in my ankle and was waiting there was a girl in the waiting room with her husband who thought she might be pregnant and was at the emergency room to get a pregnancy test. SHE WAS NOT HURTING, not bleeding, no fever, no pain, nothing JUST CURIOUS if she was freaking pregnant or not!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS SUCH CRAP!!!!!!!!! THESE SAME PEOPLE who waste the EMERGENCY doctors time with pregnancy tests and such have the gall to complain about their wait. I PERSONALLY THINK that all triages in hospitals should have the right to send people like this home and tell them to follow up with their doctor in the morning instead of letting them waste EVERYONE's time!!!!!
Sorry that is my rant - I will get back off my soapbox.
log out right now
and go make the complaint
call everyone
thatF'ing bullS'
sorries
that whole coffee thing...
grrrrrrr
You know... There is a good website out there that allows you to search for local area hospitals and read reviews/ratings on them, or allows you to leave reviews/ratings. It also gives you detailed information about that hospitals performance.
I hate my memory. I cannot remember what the website is called, but I'm sure with a little searching it wouldn't be hard to find.
If I find it before you do, I'll leave a link here for you.

When my daughter split her chin open and it needed stiches we went to the ER and it was going to be 3hrs they said before we would even be seen so we went to a walk in place instead, but it still took a long time for them to get her in and her poor chin was bleeding all over from being split open.
Back in July when I went to the ER because i was bleeding awefully and thought for sure I was having a miscarriage I think I ended up spending 6 or more hours in the ER, it was aweful.....
