Washington DC thru the lens of a child..

Anthony returned from his trip in 1 piece..lol

He had a week long trip on a worldwind tour of DC and NY.

NYC pics will be in another post later.

He worked really hard to be able to take his trip. He said DC was cool..lol

Thier first day was a long one he left to catch his plane at 2am. He landed in Baltimore at 10:30 am and took a bus to DC.

They started thier funfilled trip touring and visiting the Smithsonain museums http://www.smithsonian.org/.  He took lots of pics but most were of him and his friends goofing off. Typical kids. He saw airplanes, dinosaurs and other neat items from our past. He took a few pics of the star spanged banner he said it was neat to see.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thier 2nd day in DC included a guided sigtseeing tour of DC, FDR memorial, Arlington National Cemetary, the White House, the Capital building and a picture with our Congressman Thornberry, and finally The Legends of Alexandria tour. http://www.alexcolonialtours.com/graveyard.html He liked the tour of Arlington National cemetary the most he said it was intresting to see over 25,000 tombstomes of men and women who have served our country. He also liked the changing of the guards. He thought it was neat since he plans on heading into the military when he finishes school.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

His 3rd day in DC started out with a trip to Mount vernon, http://www.mountvernon.org/   The National archives http://www.archives.gov/ and the sepreme court. Dont have too may pics, he was goofing again with his friends...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After 3 days in DC they took a bus to head off for New York City. ....

Glad he had a good time. He got some nice pictures! Just to let you know the 25,000 number is a bit low. There are over 300,000 burried at Arlington.

Arlington National Cemetery is really incredible! I've been there, and it's soooo awesome! I remember visiting President Kennedy's grave...it was really something!

you would think they would have told them that during thier tour, eh?
this was such a wonderful opportunity for your son and his classmates. More schools should have trips like this. Our country is so large that it is a long trip for 75% or more of the population to visit our nation's capitol.

I am very fortunate to have grown up in the area. There is so much history around here. Arlington is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I know that sounds weird considering it is a cemetery but it is. There is also a very peaceful feeling when you are there. I hope you get to visit someday Dn. By the way I am heading your way to Dn part of our summer trip is in Texas this year. We will be traveling to Galveston then to San Antonio and crossing a good portion of Texas on our way to San Diego.

He's back already?! Wow, that was fast! Looks like he had a lot of fun. I love going to DC though we've only been there once in the last 4 years. I'm hoping to go there for a day this summer to visit a few places.

Wow - that's a fantastic experience! I love taking day trips to D.C. Maybe I'll pack up the kids one day this summer and take them to the natural history museum.

I think that is amazing of him to have worked so hard to go and did all by himself.  He's outstanding and the goofing pictures, hey I still do that with my friends....we just can't seem to behave ourselves...you should see some of the ones from the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago we took....We have a little Gumby that we took and he had a grand time too>>>LOL
