Okay, so Saturday was dance photos. Angela has 3 different costumes this year, so that ment changing both costumes and hair styles. Now, I DON'T DO HAIR AND MAKE-UP...I'm lousy at it. I can't even do my own. LOL. Thank goodness I have neighbors that don't mind helping me once a year for photos.

Angela has such thick hair that when she goes to bed with it wet, she wakes up with it wet. Using curlers overnight just doesn't work.
After drying her hair, Dawn put in these neat twisty curler things.
Oh, and don't you love the sunburn...she got it at school on Tuesday.

I tried taking photos through the mirror. It didn't work all that well without the flash. Dawn kept quickly moving so I would have her blurred.
The make up was put on and the curlers taken out. Lots and lots of hair spray would hopefully keep the curls in place.
Before we left for the dance studio, I got a few shots. Remember, she isn't all put together yet...no shoes, jewelry, etc.

This is a one piece costume also...not 2 pieces. There is this mesh stuff between the top and the bottom. There are also bloomie things under the skirt. No, I wasn't thrilled with this costume either.

I don't think she looks 12 either...
After the group shot at the studio (and individuals), I tried to catch Angela before she changed. She and one of her friends came out for a couple of shots. I didn't quite make it, as they were already starting to put their hair up.
I had Angela take her hair back down.

See what you have to look forward to as your girls get older, Bridget and Victoria. LOL

I don't do hair and makeup either! I had to have my aunt do my makeup on my wedding day! LOL!
Angela is a beautiful girl, she looks SO grown up in these photos!

She looks like she is 17 at least. She really is beautiful
My granddaughter's costumes have been cute but some of the ones are just hideous. There was a group of girls probably around your daughter's age and they had floppy tulle skirts, with a top made of wide black and white stripes and matching tights. The outfit DID not look good on the girls who were anything more than stick thin. I just don't see how the owner picks out some awful outfits like that. And the quality is terrible. The first year my dtr sent Caty's back for the "free alterations." I think the alterations were made by a 4 yr old. My dtr had to re do everything but learned a lesson that year. Do your own alterations!
Your dtr looks really cute in the outfit. My dtr gets off work early to fix Caty's hair and makeup. That would be a lost cause for me!
Nope. The make up is the same. I think it was just the different lighting. The first shots were taken before 9 a.m.
I know your proud as you should be.
Neat pictures! She looks older than 12.
She is so pretty. Megan use to do dance lessons and recitals as well she was in tap, jazz and ballet. She dropped out of it by the time she got to 3rd grade though which really disappointed me but I left it up to her.
you did a good job. she looks great! :)
Very pretty girl!
what fun - their outfits are very cool and to have someone fuss over your hair and make up - makes me want to go to dance class!
she's beautiful ..... i used to love the dance recitals when my girls were young... its some of my best memories of them at their finest!
She looks great.
She is sooo pretty!! Really enjoyed this photo essay.
she is a very pretty young lady, beautiful hair
I am having a panic attack for you. She is growing up fast and beautiful. The hair turned out lovely.
She is growing up so fast, she is a beauty!
She is beautiful- and growing right before our eyes!
I don't even want to think about it!! LOL
I think Angela looks so grown up here!! She definitely looks older than 12. The outfit is really cute. I love the colors of it.
My mom and I were horrifed by some of the outfits the other girls were wearing at Haley's dance recitals. The older girls mostly I think. I don't know what I'll do when Haley gets older and is asked to wear some of those skimpy things! Might have to let it be known that we do modest clothing in this family. I don't know. I'll have to wait for that day to come I guess.
I don't do makeup and hair either. Especially hair. I was lucky that my mom was here to do Haley's hair for her recital. I am terrible at hair. I can't do my own and it's no easier to do someone else's. You'd think it would be.
What I've found out is if a costume is too skimpy, you can always buy a "naked" leotard to go under it. That way you aren't showing skin, but at a distance, it still looks like everyone elses.
Most of the costumes at our dance company aren't too bad. I have seen a few I wouldn't want Angela wearing though. For some reason, 2 piece costumes are big now.
That's a good idea. I'll store that one away for future use. I'm trying to remember all this stuff you tell me about dance so I'll know what the heck I'm doing here. LOL
At Haley's recital it was the teenagers who were wearing the skimpy outfits. I can't think of any of the smaller girls' costumes that were a bit on the skimpy side, but there might have been some that I'm just not remembering now.
We still haven't gotten that DVD I bought of Haley's recital. I have no idea when we'll get it. They didn't tell us either. I'm wanting to get it so I can take Haley's routines out and post them on here.
It usually takes around 6 weeks to get the DVD. I should see if I can load some of Angela's old dances....like the ones when she was Haley's age.
When the girls get older and are in small groups, duos, trios, etc..., then it is actually the girls that pick their costumes. I've seen dance teachers veto a costume that some of the older girls wanted, because it wasn't 'appropiate.'
Oh, I found another old dance costume for Haley. It's kind of a western/Toy Story one. It's 2 piece -- red pants and top...
SO cute!! I love those twisty curlers, they really seem to work well on her hair. She has such beautiful hair. Great photos, and such cute costumes!
very cool pics here
Nice pictures! I don't do make-up either and my girls were blessed to have a daddy who taught theatre and often taught about make-up! Sometimes their friends would come over for him to do their make-up.
Thats one things about dance etc is the costumes can be a bit "showy".. I bet she loves dance though.. she is very very pretty!
Well,Jax, her hair turned out beautifully and i love their fluffy blue tops - hope all went well!!
OMG, she is so adorable. She gets cuter every time I see a picture of her. And you're right, she does not look 12 at all. You guys are in trouble. The costume is really cute. I think it's fine, especially since all of the girls are wearing the same thing. It could be worse. ;)
Those turned out to be some cute pictures. She sure does look older than her age though.
Just wait it will not be long before she is graduating high school, my youngest did this weekend. They grow up way to fast.
she is very pretty
In my reporter days I realized that every thing has it's nuances
like how a ski jumper gets ready to compete
it is fun to see that back room preparation
Get the shotgun out and loaded. You are going to need it to ward off all the boys.
She is rather sexy for a 12 year old. I wish you much luck in the coming years!!!
she is looking so pretty and gorgeous.
I love the costume! It's a very pretty color!
She is adorable. My middle niece wants to take dance lessons. You've had such a positive experience with it, I may enroll her in a camp this summer. She's shy and it might help her come out of her shell.
When she is 17 you may have your hands full - off boys lined up at the front door.
Seriously, mom & Angela, all that preparation definitely paid off. I bet the recital was a big success.
And super essay, probably could have use a couple more in-between prep shots, maybe while doing the eys and lips. The curler shots were unique.
What's in Minnesota? Streaker moved with a half hour and y'all leave for Minnesota? LOL
Very cute daughter Janet.
And me, too. ;) My DD had her first dance recital yesterday. DH was traumatized by the make-up, ha ha. She IS only 4, but I explained the whole 'wash-out from the stage' effect and he seemed to get it, especially when her class was up doing their thang. Fun essay! I'm glad you said you didn't like that costume of hers, though - I was thinking it was pretty bad myself. I hope it didn't cost you TOO much.
What a beautiful daughter you have! You're going to have to work to keep the boys away from this one. ;)
I just LOVE the outfit.
Janet ~ This is a wonderful PHOTO ESSAY ~ Loved it!
Thank you for all the photos of your daughter. She looks beautiful. She does look way older than 12 to me also.
My very favorite photo is the last one. She looks lovely.
Hope her dance recital went wonderfully.
Your daughter is beautiful Angela, I loved dance when I was a kid...the outfits look fun with the fuzzy feathers
I meant...Angela is beautiful...
Great shots and she is sooo pretty already! Seriously? 12?
