On our first date, my boyfriend brought me a peach-colored rose. He said he picked it because it was unique and pretty, like me. Ever since, he has been bringing me all different colors of roses, from lavender, to yellow, to burgundy. Recently, I was flipping through a Publisher's Clearing House mailer and I saw the Mint Julep rose. My heart stopped. Now only was it a unique color, it was green, our favorite color! I wondered if I, with my black thumb, could purchase this plant and get it to provide me with green roses? I decided to go for it and ordered it.
When it arrived, I was surprised to see a dead-looking, brown, thorny stick. My rose bush was dormant. I shrugged and went out and bought a huge planter and some potting soil. (Since I am planning on moving soon, I didn't want to plant it in the ground and not be able to take it with me.) My dormant rose slept for another two weeks while I faithfully watered it and made sure it got enough sunlight. This weekend, it finally rewarded my efforts and woke up, sprouting some green shoots and leaves. Yay! I can't wait until I finally get to see what my Mint Julep rose looks like!
