Ok so I got this Nikon d60 and it's a really nice camera so far I love it! I now want to get some new lens....The problem is I really know nothing about them! I've done some reading and searching after deciding I can't afford the $600 + on a Nikkor 300mm Af-S I'm thinking about a Tamron Zoom Telephoto AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro Auto focus Lens for Nikon AF-D or the Sigma AF Zoom DG HSM With Built in Motor Macro 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 with the Sigma I would also get a 2X Tele Converter.
Can anyone answer the following for me. Will the auto focus with these lens work on the D60?
From what I understand the HSM on the Sigma is comparable to the VR function on the Nikkor is that correct? So would I be better with the Sigma? (I am not very steady when taking a picture!)
Finally which brand is better?
Thanks for any and all help!

I know things might have changed, but I thik the basics with cameras are the same:
1) Have you got a friend with the lens you wish to buy and could you borrow them and shoot a role of film and see how it goes.
2) Try the lens in the shop, do they feel snug and comfortable, think about when you are out with your camera, will you be able to carry and use the lens.
2a) Check out second hand lens, do you have a good camera shop near you??
3) Are the heavy, awkward, or too long to go into a smaller carrying case
4) Will you be taking every lens, how big is you carrying case and do you want to lug this aobut when it is full
I hope this helps, I may be on the wrong track and if I am I am sorry.

I can't help either but sounds like a few gave you good advice. Points nation.
You can find great reviews on the lenses that you are talking about on Amazon. People that have bought them have given them good or bad reviews. Thats where my advice came from when i decided on my last Nikon D60 lens.
I love the Nikor 55-200mm. The only thing I would want is to get VR instead of non-VR.
I have no clue how to chose a lens . . sorry =(
