Where can you pretend you're a heroic firefighter, a busy lobsterman hauling in a catch, a successful restaurant owner or a serious doctor? Why, at the Children's Museum in Easton, Massachusetts!
Last Tuesday my class, along with three other kindergarten classes, from my school took a field trip to this museum housed in an old firehouse. Like most children's museums, this one featured interactive exhibits as well as a diverse array of play areas where the kids could be creative and let their imaginations run free.
On the first floor the children could be a train engineer...

or a fisherman....

or a Star in their own Broadway Show. In the Performance Center the children could create their own show or play with plenty of materials for sound affects, wardrobe and make-up.

They could also climb a fireman's pole and try to ring the bell, then slide down and save the day!!

Down in the basement, the children could experiment with cool science activities in the FETCH!™ Lab. They checked out the Wentzscope, tried the raceways...and built their own, as well as explored the world of science with lots of neat activities and exhibits.

On the second floor of the museum was a mail room, a bouncing mat, a doctor's office as well as a woodworking room.

Many of the children chose to go to the Arts & Crafts Center to color, cut, paste and create their next masterpiece.

After a full morning of activities we went out to The Wild Place to have lunch and play.

Then we boarded the buses to go back to school. What a wonderful day to realize our DREAMS.

Dreams come in many forms....but we should all fulfill our dreams to the beat of our individual drum.

Although in the past we have taken the children to the Children's Museum in Boston, we had never been to this one. I was really impressed with the exhibits as well as the staff. Funny thing was that the Director of Education at the Museum was a former Carver teacher (she resigned maybe 12 years ago to have a baby). Well, anyhow, she heard from another one of the kindergarten teachers that I was retiring in June and she came and offered me a job. I just smiled....let me retire first....have a few months to myself...and let me get back to you in 6 months is all I said.
I love the wavy, colorful ribbons in that penultimate "Have-a-Dream-photo"... It would make such a great curtain in a playroom!
Whatever you decide to do though, whoever touches your life will be blessed.
You are right...it WAS an interesting place and our adult volunteers really got into the "play" of things.
Your educational experience must have been really deprived. Next year, should I take a job here, I'll call you and you can come and play on the boat.
We always took our kids to the one in Boston. Great places...but I always made sure my boys were in red overalls (Osk Kosh's of course) so I could spot them easily.
Next year I will volunteer in a classroom if I start missing the kids. The other kindergarten teachers would love to have me come in once a week or whatever.
Linda: Sounds you've been busy having fun.
I do bow to you. Thank you for your kind words.
Featured in the Triple Name Club.
You will move semi seamlessly into your next endeavor. Just keep listening to that drummer up there (and come to see us!).
I am hoping that I move "semi seamlessly" into my next endeavor. We shall see.
I can just see all the fun you would have in the Performing Arts Center.
The kids had a blast at the Museum.
I am glad to hear that. It makes it all worth while, doesn't it?
No doctoring did I do.
Oh How Cool!!! That looks like a great place to take the kids.
By the way. . . I love your name. I wanted to name our youngest daughter Elizabeth Marie but she was named Tina instead. :)
What a wonderful place! My dream would be to one day open a place like this where I live. Atlanta has ImagineIt! which is geared towards the PreK age, and my son absolutely loved it. I plan to take him back the next time we visit.
What a wonderful experience for the kids. We have some great Children's Museums here too. Whenever my kids had a field trip to the one in Toronto, I was alwasy there too.
A fantastic field trip. I imagine some of the boys wanted to stay on the first floor. I would have.
Madame:
Though I retire in a few short days, I think I will always sign up for field trip days.
Thanks Connie for stopping by.
Thanks Brittney, Diva and William for stopping by. Children's Museums are really neat places where children can let their imaginations soar.
What a wonderful museum and what an awesome field trip ;-) I love your last words Bob:
"Dreams come in many forms....but we should all fulfill our dreams to the beat of our individual drum."
How true, and how wonderful if we don't lose this thought as we grow up...I know I am only finding my dreams again in the last few years....you are such a wise soul ;-)
Gotta love kids museum. They make learning so fun!
what a great kindergarten field trip! I have not been to this one with Cam yet, but it sure looks like fun.
Dreams are an important thing to have, and children sure are lucky to be free to dream whatever they may.
Jessica:
This is a really good one...you and Lena should bring the kids.
we should :)
I have fond memories of going to the children's museum in my town when I was little!
You must hold some dreams in your feathered wings
As you fly from your old weekday being
Toward bright wishes still unfulfilled
It should be fun and freeing
Embracing you bosom to bosom
Lifted high by your infectuous laughter
staring and eye to eye
Is one thing I am after
For reading you has widened my smile
And sweetened my friendship pie
Oh Jan...you just made me cry. We could have a blast together just hanging out. I do have to get to California or you to Boston.
It's gonna happen. I'm sure of it.

You must hold some dreams in your feathered wings
As you fly from your old weekday being
Toward bright wishes still unfulfilled
It should be fun and freeing
Embracing you bosom to bosom
Lifted high by infectious laughter
Gazing eye to eye
A goal I’m seeking after
For reading your work expands my horizons
And sweetens my friendship pie
