What a day for storms. We were pretty lucky, most were small, others just missed us for the most part today. I kept the horses in so they'd be out of it. Then the Sun came out right before the Preakness race ran. And speaking of the Preakness, just gotta say, What a race! I wanted Mine that Bird, but the filly, Rachael Alexander won it fair and square. She beat the big boys! And Bird gave it a good race as well. Very exciting and no injuries made it even better.
So after the race, I turn the horses back out and clean up the barn. My daughter was coming back from England this evening and bringing her new beau by right from Dulles. I've had her dog all week and she wanted to come right here and pick him up. She calls an hour later saying they were almost here and I said I'd meet her outside.
I take the dogs downstairs and am thinking, it's awfully dark out, wonder if there's another storm coming. Sure enough coming at a really fast speed from West to East, was a huge Black storm over Paris mountain. Same time, my daughter is pulling in. Then the dogs start going nuts, The horses start racing around. Yee Haw and they're off!
I kinda remember shaking the new beau's hand and then saying, Can you all help me get these guys in? I asked them to just go to the gate and call the guys, not to go in the field. I went to get Bridget in, then the mares. I get them in and look out to see if they had come up to the gate. Well, there's my girl, her beau and both dogs in the field with both horses racing right at them. Jeez Louise! I ran as fast as I could to get there before them, by the time I got to the gate, my daughter was running past me out of there with dogs.... Her friend was standing in the same spot just froze in place. He finally turned and ran just as I got to him. LOL! Of course the horses stop for me, but he had never been around horses before and I was afraid he'd be hurt.
As soon as I got the boys in their stalls. My daughter gave me a fast hug, said she wanted to leave before it hit. she lives in the opposite direction of the storm. Then she took her dog & beau (who was saying, Nice to meet you ), jumped in the car and took off. just in the nick of time.
I then grabbed my camera and got these 2 shots.
As it is going over the barn, I shot this one, the clouds were still bluish grey
Then everything was turning black and the trees were really blowing, I got skeered and ran inside when the lightning and thunder came.
It's finally over for now. Sure felt like Something Wicked this way comes the way this one blew in. I still have my power and all is well now. Just wonder what my daughter's new beau thinks of me. I'm sure he'll never forget the first time we met. LoL! I know I won't.
