Some people here on Gather have long tried to tell me, don't tell me what the durn polls are saying, polls are meaningless and you can prove any nonsensical thing with the poll results. Huh, today's polls seem to support what you guys have been saying.
Poll result #1: a poll of Republican Party insiders regarding Dick Cheney's recent public yammerings: 57% want him to sit down and be quiet, and only 33% say love you dickie boy, bring it on. Wow, that is remarkable. These are not Dems saying this.
Poll result #2: a poll on the recent H1N1 flu virus revealed that only about one third of American respondents to the poll were willing to actually be vaccinated against it. Apparently memories of the handful of people who died from the Swin Flu vaccine screw up of 1976 are way fresher than memories of the 500,000+ Americans who died from the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918. But still, how dumb can you get. Two thirds of americans have so little trust in modern science that they would put themselves at risk by publicly asserting that they know better than the medical profession.
Poll result #3: A recent poll by the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion and Public Life found that half of Catholics surveyed supported Notre Dame's invitation to Obama. Twenty-eight percent were opposed. Hmm. So much for the theory that abortion is the absolute only thing that American catholics care about.
Okay, I am not sure what to make of all this polling. Maybe, the world is more nuanced and complex than we think it is? Okay, that could be one of the lessons of #1 and #3, but #2 just makes me feel stupid.

I think with politics it depends on the area the poll is taken in like a poll about republicans using just registered republican supporters would show different results if taken in Florida than it would in New England.
I don't put much faith in polls if any because I don't believe enough people are polled to get any real results.
Also their are paid poling services that are paid to show certain numbers by political figures.
Even a poll that uses several thousand people does not show the mind set of the entire voting public.
Also as far as the swine flu goes the CDC made a public statement that the millions of doses of vaccine the government is stockpiling are no good for this strain of flu.
Most of the medications being provided for fibromyalgia say in the pamphlets that they don't know why they work. I should have confidence in them?
To get a flu shot is not a problem for me. I demand one. Not to get the vaccine is a dangerous gamble. I had the Swine Flu. I lived in a nightmare for ten days. Then I had three months of getting my strength back. Anyone who says I had a touch of the flu yesyerday doesn't know what flu is.
Marilyn M, flu shots causing Alzheimer's because the elderly get flu shots! Total lack of accurate logic. How about this logic: I ate a banana yesterday and got a sore throat. I won't eat bananas again. They cause sore throats.
