Gather will randomly select five discussion participants to receive 250 Gather Points!
Friday’s show will feature David Fishman, a 12-year-old with a beyond-his-years taste for healthy and fine foods. David was always interested in the food he ate and began writing down his food musings and questions at a young age. By the time he was 11, he was going to restaurants on his own and writing reviews, and before he knew it, he was featured in the New York Times – and a food critic was born! David’s motto is that you don’t need to compromise flavor or taste when it comes to choosing healthy menu items.
Here are some discussion points to consider while watching the show:
- Do you agree with Rachael that David is “incredible”?
- How do you help your family learn the importance of good nutrition and living healthfully?
- What is most important to you when selecting foods from a restaurant menu?
- Are your children adventurous eaters? How do you get them to try new foods – flavors, textures, etc.?
- What’s your favorite trick to ensure that you don’t compromise flavor and nutrition when preparing meals for your family?
Gather will randomly select five discussion participants to receive 250Gather points! *Please note: You must be a member of the Incredible! group to be eligible, so join today!

I'm mulling it over in preparation for the chat.
* How do you help your family learn the importance of good nutrition and living healthfully? I am always reading about the "latest" in nutrition and trying to make healthy meals, including vegetarian and/or vegan dishes and fish. We have also cut way down on consumption of red meats and have almost completely cut out hydrogenates and high fructose corn syrup.
* What is most important to you when selecting foods from a restaurant menu? Taste/flavor! I usually like highly seasoned and flavorful dishes.
* Are your children adventurous eaters? How do you get them to try new foods – flavors, textures, etc.? I expect that kids that eat at my house will try everything that is made. They don't have to like it, but they WILL try it.
* What’s your favorite trick to ensure that you don’t compromise flavor and nutrition when preparing meals for your family? Fresh fruits and veggies- and if not in season, frozen are just as good.
I think David shows incredible confidence. He knows what he loves and has found a way to learn more (about food) and then had the courage to follow his dreams. That's pretty darn impressive. I bet it did throw restaraunt workers off when they saw someone as young as him by himself.
I live with food allergies so our family learned about organic and healthy food. They ate food that didn't have additives, preservatives or dyes. Now that my daughter is a Mom she tries to eat healthy food and makes sure her little guy eats healthy food.
It is very iimportant that I know all the ingredients in anything served in restaurant food.
Our girls are adventurous eaters. They've been exposed to many kinds of food and are willing to try different things.
We always start out with fresh, healthy food and cook from scratch so there aren't all kinds of additives, preservatives, etc. It's amazing what is in convenience food these days. I think it's getting better.
I couldn't find it on in our area.
Tons of comments from earlier made me do a double take to see if I had the right day and time.
This is an ongoing process. I try to focus on eating tons of veggies and fewer processed foods.
Thanks. I wish I'd been able to see this show.

We don't eat out a lot, so I don't worry too much about nutrition when eating out. I like to eat things I normally wouldn't prepare at home!
I would have to say taste and I typically go for items/dishes that I don't cook at home.
So far I'm lucky in that Little Miss will try just about anything once! I'm sure it will get harder as she gets older, but I'm hoping that since she's been introduced to a lot of different foods already some of them will stick with her.
Glad to see that you got my message and made it!

I left the party early its about to storm here:)
I like to try new things, if I dont like them, then my hubby usually eats it for me....
There is a link to a story about David in this article.
I'm impressed that his mother was supportive and suggested that he consider becoming a food critic.
Using lots of great spices!
* How do you help your family learn the importance of good nutrition and living healthfully? My daughter and I discuss eating right and staying healthy.
* What is most important to you when selecting foods from a restaurant menu? Its important that they are healthy choices example baked potato instead of French Fries.
* Are your children adventurous eaters? No How do you get them to try new foods – flavors, textures, etc.? We do try new foods, but a little amount because of allergies.
* What’s your favorite trick to ensure that you don’t compromise flavor and nutrition when preparing meals for your family? I will mix in foods that she would rather skip like vegetables into a soup and applesauce into muffins, so no oil.
Tripe?
ughh I'm not that brave and I thought I was a pretty adventurous eater.
My 15 yr old son is NOT adventurous...he only eats certain things...BUT what really gets me is, if he is at friends house, he will eat what they eat...why is that? When he doesnt eat that at my house!
have a good chat gang
Yes. So am I so it's not very surprising. I really don't have to do anything to get them to try new things. Adventurous spirits I guess.
I like the idea about putting nutrious food in food. Very smart.
Do you encourage your children (the ones old enough) to read the food labels? It's a great opportunity to teach math and to show ingredients.
No it's not easy.
sorry I just can't give up fries.
It's a good thing that I rarely and I mean very rarely eat out.
