My father in law has passed on. This is very upsetting. I had my husband call Manpower to see if he could get time off to attend the funeral. They said yes, put without pay.So we will not be going.
Martin's dad was a great man. He served in the Vietnam War. He loved the outdoors. Dad also loved to talk. I talked to him several times a week. I miss him already. I keep thinking I can pick up the phone and call him. When the phone rings, I think that's him, he's not really gone.
Due to him living in Oklahoma, we will not be able to attend the funeral. I have been crying alot. Martin has not cryed yet. I don't think it has hit him, yet.I know men deal with their feeling differant than women. I keep wanting to pick up the phone. I know he will not be answering again, or calling. God has called him home.

My hubby has worked for the same company for 10 years and doesn't get any paid time off!
I can't believe they don't have bereavement pay and leave. I've worked for Sam's club off and on for 7 yrs and you get 3 days with pay (no matter how long you've worked there) and if you have to travel you get as much time as you need, you can use your personal time if you have accumulated any. Then of course the folks I work with rally around you and usually a collection is taken up to help out. I missed almost a month of work when my dad passed after only 1 yr of working there and the support was so amazing.
I was a rock until that point..........
temp services aren't like other jobs....most places give their employees at least 2 days paid for bereavement......
Prayers and Many Hugs being sent.
As for attending funerals... I left Luvly Dotter in labor and crying because she couldn't go (grandson was born while I was on the road), and drove four hours to attend my father's funeral. Given some of the events there, I'd've been better served to stay at the hospital with her.
((HUGS))
and sorry that you won't be able to attend the funeral
take care and best wishes to you and your family :-)
