I was looking through my pitifully small collection of Mackinac Bridge photos today, and tried to "clean" one of the images up.
For starters, it was a very hazy day, so distance shots were obscured by a haze that hung in the air. Next, when we were on the ferry on the way to the island, we went under the bridge- but there were dozens of other people vying for the best photo, all standing up, and moving around, so on the bottom of almost every photo is some random person or 20.
Last, the ferry was moving- the camera I had at the time was a decent little camera, but it was still not that great, in aspect of how well it took photos- especially moving.
Anyway, I found one that I cropped down to remove the heads, but it was a dirty kind of image- darker colors, some haziness in the background, etc. When I tried cleaning it up, I started to think- what about black & white?
I did that, and tried to brighten and up the contrast, but it still just had this not clean feel to it. It suddenly hit me that it looked like an old black & white- something taken in the 50's or 60's. I added noise to it, and framed it, and when I look at it as something "old", I -love it.
Here's the original.
Here's the slightly cleaned up version in color still.

And here's the end result that I love.
