Obama seeks to block release of abuse photos

I personally feel this is the right decision, just too late. Now that there has been so much talk about these photos and the fact President Obama wanted to release them keeping them from being released only helps so much.

More lies just to defend deranged tortures. Obama is keeping the torture chambers open also which is another lie. Obama is just kissing up to his pal Bush and could care less how many terrorists he recruits, the more terrorists the more empire building.

I don't agree Jack. I think his reasons are more than legitimate. His predecessor didn't care how many new terrorists he spawned. Obama knows this will be fuel for his critics, but his concern appears to be for the troops. It's not an easy thing, to be president in an open society.

Its nothing but insurrection to allow political criminals to go free.

Yes, lets pull a big PR blanket over the truth, because it might inflame tensions. The "truth" is a inconvenient concept anyway, right? Meanwhile we'll continue to occupy Iraq six years after our stated reason for being there turned out to be false, and we'll continue to bomb Afghanistan leaving loads of depleted uranium around for the next 1,000's of generations of Afghanis to deal with in terms of cancers and birth defects, while over the last eight years nothing has changed in Afghanistan. We installed a UNOCAL consultant to run Kabul while the rest of Afghanistan is run by the same druglords that were running it before.

All of that won't inflame tensions, will it? Obama had a chance to represent change in the eyes of the world, and he blew it (or didn't want to). Same immoral and counterproductive foreign policy. The leader just looks a little different and has a lot more ignorant fans cheering him on.

If he shows the pics it will prove the torture proceedings that took place and condemn Bush and his gang forever. Now he can sit back and say "where's the beef"?

Obama is no better than Bush and Cheney and has done nothing but carry out the same empire building scam and war profiteering as the past wannabe dictators.

Empire building will be slowing in the next few years as America continues to decline and we have to station troops on our own shores to keep the freedom fighters out.

When I first heard about this, the first thing that came out of my mouth and my mind was - "No S**T!" Thank you to whoever brought this to his attention. His previous stance on releasing the photos showed severe lack of judgment and consequences along with his inexperience with the Defense of our Country.

It is a shame, though, that we have bad eggs in the military who SHOULD exercise good judgment, but don't. As a veteran and military wife with my husband in Iraq, we have way too many personal stories about people who should not be defending our country slipping through the cracks. Especially now with basic training not being as severe as it used to be - it was supposed to break you, to weed out those who couldn't handle it. We were always taught that we are only as strong as our weakest link, and that is certainly true. Accountability needs to start at the lowest level.

Although the idea of those photos and what a VERY VERY FEW soldiers had a hand in doing sickens me, it is right that releasing the photos would put us at risk.

You are very wrong Michelle, accountability starts at the top and trying to defend a criminal gang like the Bush regime is nothing but brain dead propaganda.

"We are a country of laws" so says Obama but what law was was he referring to? Maybe the nonexistent law that says insurrection and murder of innocent people can go unpunished when it is done by political criminals?

You people that can defend Bush and his gang should not be allowed any freedom, you belong in prison beside Bush where you can plot the next phase of your failed takeover.

What am I defending? I'm not saying it was RIGHT, those pictures of abuse. Those soldiers who used perversion and humiliation should and will be tried. I'm saying the world does not need to SEE the actual pictures - especially now that we have already been told in detail what it shows. Why do we need to see it? You can't see what harm that would cause and the risk to our soldiers?

My husband is in Iraq. I'd rather he come home in one piece then to inflame hostilities because we were shown photos we already know exist.

Oh - and accountability starts with yourself. When I say the lowest level, I mean that we are EACH individually accountable for our own actions.

I don't blame my parents for what I do, and I don't expect my stepchildren to blame me for the actions they take when they are old enough to make those decisions for themselves.

Mischelle its typical American to hide from the truth. The pictures are a part of what America has done to innocent people. If the public can't stand to see what they have allowed they need to stop waving flags and stop supporting blood for oil wars.

You will have to look people up Michelle if you do not know the meaning. Or are you referring to the people I mention that were murdered by almost two million and the people tortured by a deranged wannabe murderer.

Bush needs to be the first punished and then on down the line to Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and the rest of the scum that has destroyed innocent peoples lives.
