Count down to baby's arrival...

In 4 short weeks I'll be traveling to a birth community to wait for my baby to come. She is due in 6 short weeks.

I am trying to determine what I'll need for the little one with regards to clothing and what not since I have to plan to bring it along with me. We are planning to stay there for 1 week following her birth so howmany outfits will I need?

Do newborns soil themselves that frequently or will they be clean in the beginning? I only have 12 onesies in 0-3 month sizes and am hoping that will be enough for her first week of life. Will I need to bring some 3-6 month outfits too? Can they come out that big? LOL

Also, tell me about diapers... We plan to cloth diaper once we get her home and have the money to invest in some but for her first week we will use disposible diapers. Are the newborn sized ones okay or do I need other sizes too? How many diapers would a newborn need for her first week?

Wow it does sound like you have a lot to plan. I would probably stock up on baby wipes too, as you are undoubtably going to need it. I hope you have a safe and healthy delivery Lina!

a baby stay clean , ah come on . I hope you have a huge stack of diapers and a new stack for everyday that you are there. New born will be fine , can't give you an exact number but I am sure someone can . I remember having 9 sleepers and thinking I had a lot , hah try double that . It sounds like you have not been around babies at all , so I would urge you to talk to your care givers , and friends etc . Or go to the library and read everything you can get your hands on . Hope it goes well .

You may want to get a few more newborn onesies, as babies can have blowouts. As far as diapers, newborn ones should be fine. I would say plan on 8 per day. Babies can go through many outfits in one day. Better to be over prepared than under prepared.

You must be so excited. I wonder about the birth commmunity as well, I have never heard of it before.

Better be safe than sorry about the diapers and clothes, as it can be quite messy with a newborn and the diapers do not always contain everything.

Did your doctor give you an estimate of how big the baby will be? Good luck with everything!

I've never heard of a birth community, is that similar to a hospital, can you explain what that is?

newborn size diapers should be perfect for the first week, even if you have a 9 pound baby he/she will not gain that much weight in the first week. 12 onesies should be fine as long as you have adequate bibs & birp cloths. I admire your braveness for cloth diapers. Does the birth community supply any of this? At my local hospital they supply all the diapers, clothing, blankets etc until you leave as a courtesy.

The birth community is called The Farm and it is run by midwives as opposed to doctors. Sort of like a birthing center will all the necessities for delivery baby but outside the hospital.

You might want to get some simply t-shirts depending on the temps and some receiving blankets. The t-shirts can be worn during the day and allow the umbilical cord stub to dry out so it can "fall off".
